TEMPORARY TRAINER, HEALTH AND SAFETY

JOB TITLE: Temporary Trainer, Health and Safety
SALARY RANGE: $56,008 - $74,068
HIRING RANGE: $56,008 - $71,485
DATE OF VACANCY: As soon as possible

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Trainer, Health and Safety develops, organizes, and delivers health and safety related training to TVDSB staff and students. The incumbent ensures compliance and due diligence under legislation by maintaining accurate training records and creates and assists with related projects and safety initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Research and develop content related to health and safety training, policies, procedures, and programs
  • Deliver health and safety presentations and training
  • Liaise with Graphic Services and Information Technology Services, to obtain required technology and software application development
  • Research and provide information, data and recommendations regarding health and safety related issues
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders for the development of policies, procedures, training programs, and initiatives

WORK PERFORMED:
  • Research, develop content and deliver health and safety training online and in class. For example: First Aid training, Working at Heights training and monthly Health and Safety Spotlights
  • Develop web-based presentations and training,
  • Liaise with Learning Support Services staff to develop and facilitate subject-specific safety-training programs
  • Liaise with Graphic Services and Information Technology Services for required technology and software application development
  • Develop and maintain training documentation and record reporting structures to ensure compliance with Ministry of Labour and other regulatory bodies
  • Research and provide information, data and recommendations regarding health and safety related issues
  • Develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the feasibility and impact of programs, procedures, and new initiatives
  • Assist safety team with the completion, development, and implementation of projects and initiatives
  • Collaborate with and provide information to stakeholders, including Joint Health and Safety committees, regarding training programs, policies, and procedures
  • Manage Health and Safety training calendar for TVDSB ensuring training and operational needs are met
  • Provide safety awareness training to students as requested
  • Demonstrate current knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of health and safety legislation, approaches, and trends

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Familiarity with Ministry of Education Policy/Program Memorandums (PPM)
  • Strong Analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to research and identify reliable sources of information
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Outlook 365, MS Office Suite, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Completion of a three (3) year post-secondary program in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • One (1) year related work experience is required
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification Training Part 1 and Part 2 is preferred
  • Train-the Trainer certification is preferred
  • Working at Heights Train-the-Trainer certification is preferred
  • Standard First Aid & CPR Train-the-Trainer certification is preferred
  • Aerial Work Platform Train-the-Trainer certification is preferred
