Job Posting: Accounting Assistant

Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Assistant will provide day-to-day support and ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions for WIL Employment Connections and its corporations as well as associated programs funded by three levels of government. The Accounting Assistant must be highly organized, has preferable knowledge of Sage, and be familiar with full – cycle accounting.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs AR/AP duties including depositing cheques and preparing invoices;
  • Prepares payments for vendors by cheques or EFT (electronic file transfer) ensuring vendors are paid accurately and on time;
  • Assists in obtaining information in reference to payments and deposits;
  • Balances daily and weekly payments and provides history of past payments & allocations;
  • Files and documents all AP/AR files using accounting software and provides support to all managers;
  • Performs daily review and verification of bank transactions;
  • Prepares monthly GL accounts reconciliations and balancing of general ledger;
  • Assists with monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting as required;
  • Assists with the HST remittance;
  • Creates and places monthly order for office supplies;
  • Provides support to Accounting Manager on processing responses to funder requests relating to finances and preparing project budgets;
  • Understands and keeps up to date with the knowledge of all services and programs offered by WIL;
  • Collaborates and supports the achievement of WIL mission and goals; and
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • College diploma or University degree in accounting;
  • 5+ years’ experience in a related role;
  • Experience working with accounting software such as Sage;
  • Extensive experience with accounts payable and receivable;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Working knowledge of trial balances, general ledger (GL) databases, financial statement close processes and accounting matters;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to review own work;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good time management skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities;
  • Ability to multi-task and complete projects with frequent interruptions;
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently;
  • Ability to solve problems;
  • Cross-cultural competency with an ability to interact and work effectively with people from   different cultures and backgrounds; and
  • Professional demeanor and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
