Job Description

Primary Function
This position is responsible to work closely with engineering, manufacturing & other disciplines to develop hardware, firmware, and support testing for Transonic Scisense and Transonic EndoGear research device systems. This position will aid in the development of new Transonic products and provide support to existing products used in our biomedical research divisions.

Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Assist in the development of various electronic sub-systems including analog, digital, and RF circuits from schematic capture to board layout.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, maintain, and support hardware on new and existing products.
  • Design, develop and maintain hardware for the control and data acquisition of internal test benches using LabVIEW and other data acquisition setups.
  • Design test control fixtures and other supporting equipment using 3D CAD such as SolidWorks. Consult with other engineering and manufacturing teammates to ensure the designs are feasible.
  • Use 3D printing technology to implement designs for use in testing, production, and products.
  • Confirm component capabilities by designing test methods, procedures, and instructions for checking electronic printed circuit board assemblies.
  • Identify and support testing efforts on medical grade material design improvements to new and existing products.
  • Process and analyze R&D test data using scripting technology to generate reports and to integrate new knowledge into product development.
  • Maintain constant awareness of technologies, scientific developments, design software and hardware capabilities, as well as software tools to make continuous improvements to products.
  • Assist engineering in the development of various MCU firmware.
  • Assist with hardware/firmware related documentation.
  • Assist in technical support related to existing pressure, flow, and telemetry products.
  • Work on multiple projects and drive with objectives and priority.
  • Participate in planning discussion that includes time and complexity estimation of team tasks.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned by Management.

  • Interact with management and work cooperatively other departments such as Marketing, Customer Service, Purchasing, Quality, R&D and Manufacturing
  1. Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field required.
  • 0—2+ years’ experience.
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Spectrum analyzers, multi-meters etc. is required.
  • PCB design experience in industry level tools; Altium Designer or other related PCB tools is a plus.
  • Experience with 3D printing processes and ability to use 3D CAD drawing software to create objects used in engineering, manufacturing, testing and production. Experience in SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Experience in designing biomedical devices is a plus.
  1. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and comprehend digital and analog component datasheets.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition and signal processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Solid understanding of test systems and software integration techniques.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the capability of explaining the underlying concepts and principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English including effective presentation of technical data to all levels within the organization.
  • The individual must be highly self-motivated and must thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Passion for learning new and emerging technologies.
 
  1. Advantageous Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience in soldering small PCB’s and other small components is a plus.
  • Ability to design and manufacture multi-level PCB’s is desired.
  • Experience with microcontroller programming in C – PIC, MSP430 and Cortex ARM, Atmel is a plus.
  • Experience with wireless protocols such as Bluetooth, sub-GHz, etc. is a plus.
  • Experience in LabVIEW, Python is a plus.
  • Experience writing software routines/scripts to run experiments including data collection, storage, and basic data reduction is a plus.
  • Experience in product development, specifically developing firmware for electronic devices, throughout the product development lifecycle is a plus.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and an understanding of electrical, pneumatic, temperature, electronic and mechanical measurement techniques is a plus.
  • Experience with software versioning control techniques, Git preferred.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript, Typescript & Java is a plus.
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi is a plus.
  • Strong data analytics skills including familiarity with principles of statistics is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of medical grade materials is a plus.
