The Family Services Thames Valley Board is seeking applicants for the position of Executive Director.

Summary

The Executive Director (ED) is accountable to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall leadership, implementation, operation and evaluation of FSTV in accordance with legislation, funder requirements, by-laws and policy directives set by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director ensures the efficient and effective operation of the agency within the legislation and according to the Agency Mission Statement, Vision, and Goals. Part of this work will be overseeing the development of a new 3-year strategic plan, and assisting with FSTV’s sustainability and Growth.

Expanded Strategic Mandate for the Executive Director:

 
  • The Board would like to see ACF Canada become a highly visible charity with its positive impact being felt and well known in Canada and around the world.
  • Diversifying revenue and development sources continues to be a major focus of the Board. Investments have been made in digital fundraising and donor relations. The Board would like to see that investment to continue to demonstrate growth and to expand to other non-government sources. 
  • To improve branding and enhance FSTV’s recognition in London-Middlesex through community engagement and partnerships, allowing the organization to become a household name over the next 3 years.
  • Develop a team with built in ED succession.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Board of Directors

 
  1. Build and nurture a culture of commitment among Board members through effective communication, dynamic leadership, and appropriate levels of engagement on issues of strategic importance to FSTV
  2. Responsible for the implementation of Board policies.
  3. Acts as a consultant to the Board of Directors anticipating and identifying special needs and trends in the community.
  4. Keeps the Board of Directors fully informed of all significant operational, financial and other matters relevant to the Agency, and provides all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
  5. Facilitates effective communication and good relationships between the Board of Directors and the Ministries, staff, bargaining unit, clients, media and other related agencies, working groups or council.
  6. Ensures implementation of orientation and ongoing education programs or initiatives for the Board.
  7. Lead the creation and implementation of the Agency’s strategic plan.
  8. Perform other duties as outlined in the Bylaws, Policies, or as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Leadership/Management:
 
  1. Articulating, role modelling and demonstrating the values and philosophies of FSTV
  2. Monitors Leadership Team work plans.
  3. Ensures that programs and services successfully fulfil the Agency’s mandates and funding agreements.
  4. Reviews and evaluates existing studies of community needs, resources and designs and/or implements further studies as needed.
  5. Work with the Finance Team to develop, implement and monitor the program budgets. Monitors the financial reporting of the Agency and reports regularly to the Board.
  6. Responsible for fiscal management that anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization and aligning the organization with a positive financial position.
  7.  Reviews, evaluates, designs and participates with the Leadership Team in the implementation of the professional development activities for the Agency.
  8. Reviews, evaluates and revises in consultation with the Board, the policies and procedures of the Agency to ensure Accreditation standards are maintained.
  9. Lead for Agency representation and collaboration to other agencies, the public at-Iarge, the funding Ministries, regional planning bodies and other partners.
  10. Responsible for the solicitation of funding dollars from the Ministries with Finance Team support.
  11. In consultation with Board and Management Team, develops goals and objectives based on strategic plan and directions.
  12. Work with Leadership Team to ensure data quality and consistency within the Agency.
  13. Responsible for the hiring, discipline and termination of all staff in accordance with Board Policy, and applicable legislation, with a focus on attracting and retaining the talent required to achieve FSTV’s goals.
  14. Develop and maintain an engaged and high performance work culture
  15. Provides direct supervision to Leadership Team.
  16. Completes probationary reports and annual performance appraisals of the Leadership Team.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

 
  1. A professional degree at a Masters level in a relevant field preferred and may be required if applicable areas of responsibility.
  2. Maintain in good standing membership with relevant professional body.
  3. Minimum of five (5) years’ recent clinical experience is preferred.
  4. Minimum of five (5) years’ leadership/management experience in a not-for-profit charitable organization preferred.
  5. Minimum of three (3) years’ supervisory experience/practice.
  6. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills with a philosophy of inclusion and agency participation.
  7. A combination of demonstrated experience and education in financial management, program development and administration.
  8. Strong leadership skills, exceptional communication, organization and writing skills
  9. High level strategic thinking and planning ability; experience growing an organization is an asset
  10. The ability to work effectively with government funders, other service providers and a volunteer Board of Directors is required.
  11. The Ability to envision and communicate FSTV’s strategic future to staff, Board, Volunteers and stakeholders
  12. Experience with Accreditation, Outcomes and Policy Governance Framework is essential.
  13. Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sectors Screening.

Occupational Health & Safety 
  1. Follows all policies and procedures to ensure personal safety and safety of others.
  2. Ensure that any equipment or safety problems is reported and addressed.
  3. Review Agency policies and procedures as required.
