Position Summary

Reporting to the Controller, in a manufacturing facility, the General Accountant is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures are in place. This individual is expected to ensure the integrity of all accounting information by recording, verifying, and entering transactions demonstrating a capability to complete work efficiently while recognizing issues of concern or opportunities as they arise. This individual will also be expected to take steps to resolve or maximize any potential financial issue that may arise in a timely fashion and escalate, where required.

Position Responsibilities

  • Handles the day-to-day transactions including: processing invoices, expense claims, petty cash and receipts
  • Prepare and analyze documents for un-billed shipments
  • Code, post and receipt payments
  • Prepare and coordinate deposit activities
  • Analyze discrepancies and unpaid invoices
  • Perform all necessary account, bank and other reconciliations for both CDN and USD Accounts
  • Responsible for the collection of outstanding accounts receivable
  • Verify and process and record all Accounts Payable transactions
  • Maintain vendor files
  • Processes government forms including GST/HST, EHT, WSIB, Source deductions and other annual requirements
  • Maintain and up-date daily time records
  • Prepare and manage all payroll transactions
  • Manage vacation entitlements and calculate stat pay
  • Prepare documentation for various government programs
  • Conducts account variance analysis on a regular basis
  • Maintains office and capital equipment records
  • Provides support in organizing and preparing data for monthly financial statements distributed to department managers and in preparation of the year-end audit
  • Performs filing and general administrative tasks
  • Liaise with other departments, customers and vendors
  • Ensure all transactions are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Preparation of supporting schedules for reports and other project initiatives as may be required
  • Works in conjunction with the Controller in developing accounting control systems
  • Promote efficiency and clean work environment
  • Launch new projects and procedures

Qualifications and Skills
  • Post-secondary Diploma in Accounting and or a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience based on position responsibilities
  • Working knowledge of Excel
  • Preferred working knowledge QuickBooks
  • Detail oriented, organized and able to meet tight deadlines
  • Proven prioritization, time management skills
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work independently in a fast paced environment
  • High level of professionalism and the ability to deal effectively with all levels in the organization
  • Excellent communications skills and writing abilities
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
