Job Description

Summary of Duties

Reports to the Division Manager, or designate and liaises with the Managers of Operations.  Assists in the planning, contract administration and construction inspection of the City's infrastructure. Manages computerized Maintenance Management, Asset Management and Work Order systems.

Work Performed

Prepares tender documents, quotations, and requests for proposals.  Develops engineering drawings and administers contracts involving a variety of construction projects.  Contract administration includes quantity estimates, cost estimates, agreements, addendums, specification development and payment certificates.  Recommends approval for payment on invoicing and payment certificates.

 

Performs construction inspection to ensure compliance with approved engineering drawings and requirements for work performed by others.

 

Evaluates the ongoing effectiveness of systems in meeting their intended objectives and recommends improvements in both systems and methods within the Operations Group.

 

Provides support on corporate systems including but limited to Work Orders, Asset management  and Maintenance Management Software.

 

Operates and understands required hardware and software systems pertaining to computerized maintenance management systems including the operation of personal computers.

 

Prepares various types of information, such as maps, drawings, graphs and charts.

 

Provides technical guidance and supervision to Technologist I and other staff.

 

Generates specific maintenance management systems applications as required, including methodologies for data transfer.

 

Coordinates the analysis, verification and extraction of engineering information in various maintenance files and supervises the collation and data entry of this information into maintenance management systems software.

 

Provides advice on interpretation and application of policies, standards, methods, and procedures of the Division and Department to consultants, developers, contractors, members of the public, other Divisions, Departments, and government bodies.

 

Attends meetings on behalf of the Division and prepares correspondence and reports as required.

 

Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

Three year Community College Civil Engineering Technology Diploma plus one year of a Computer Programming Program.

 

Four to five years' related experience.

Specialized Training & Licenses

Skills and abilities in the following area are necessary:

 

Valid Driver's Licence - Class G.

 

Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects.

 

Working knowledge of civil engineering technology, contract administration, and construction inspection. Demonstrated proficiency in wordprocessing, spreadsheets, geomatics software and associated hardware.

Compensation and Other Information

$54,093 - $78,599 (Level 14)

 

This position is for Transportation & Roadside Operations.

 

Other Information:
Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
These hours of work are subject to change in accordance with the Collective Agreement and may include evening hours and Saturdays.
