The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry provides outstanding education within a research-intensive, distributed learning environment where tomorrow’s physicians, dentists and health researchers and other scholars learn to be socially responsible leaders in the advancement of human health. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is the largest Faculty on the Western University campus and employs over 2,000 part time and full time faculty and over 1,500 staff.

Distributed Education (DE) is part of the Education Portfolio of the Dean’s Office within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. It is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and is one of Canada’s largest distributed medical education programs. It is comprised of an Assistant Dean, Rural & Regional Community Engagement, a Manager, and 600+ preceptors located in over 60 communities located throughout Southwestern Ontario. DE facilitates rural and regional education and training opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate learners.

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the logistical and day-to-day activities of various project-based aspects of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry’s Distributed Education (DE), and will play a key part in the assessment of potential program and operational enhancements within the DE portfolio. The Coordinator will develop and update project plans; assist with the design, implementation and evaluation of project components; coordinate the successful implementation of the projects; and ensure that the outcomes are achieved on time and within budgetary constraints. The Project Coordinator will also communicate progress updates to stakeholders and schedule project meetings, respond to inquiries related to the projects, and support the collection, analysis and dissemination of project results.

Qualifications

Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or relevant discipline
- Project Management Professional certification completed or in progress is preferred

Experience:
- 3 years’ project management experience in a business office environment
- Experience working in an academic environment is preferred
- Experience assisting with the preparation of budgets and monitoring accounts is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with techniques for planning, managing and coordinating projects, with competing priorities that involve a variety of stakeholders with the ability to manage projects from conception through implementation and evaluation within tightly prescribed timelines
- Knowledge of assessment and evaluation in relation to programming
- Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a database
- Familiarity with financial principles and budgeting with the ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of language
- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the unit’s events and activities
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to train others in sys tem usage
- Ability to investigate defined issues, solicit input, and suggest remedies and alternative approaches that meet the needs of the situation
- Proven ability and natural inclination to develop relationships by interacting with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
