MANAGER, INSTITUTIONAL DATA AND SPECIAL PROJECTS

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director, Information Technology and working closely with senior leadership, the
Manager, Institutional Data and Special Projects is responsible for leading the design,
development and implementation of critical business intelligence initiatives and projects that will
contribute to strategic decision-making across the institution.
This role will focus on developing and supporting a holistic data strategy for Huron. This strategy
supports the daily business operations in documenting processes and includes defining
requirements for and supporting a Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) in use across
the University. Other duties include planning and implementing data collection, conceptualizing,
designing, and conducting analytical studies. The incumbent will also prepare and disseminate
appropriate information to stakeholders in support of Huron’s academic and institutional goals.
This position will be required to research and identify both CRM and Business Intelligence (BI)
industry trends and best practices with attention on how these relate and can bring benefit to the
University.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develops methods for gathering and analyzing KPIs across the university that could
include measuring learning outcomes, student and institutional characteristics, area
demographics, student enrollment, retention and attrition studies and institutional
effectiveness.
• Identifies both institutional and environmental strengths, challenges, trends, and
opportunities.
• Evaluates the processing and maintenance of data and databases for institutional,
departmental and individual needs. Ensures data integrity; researches and recommends
changes to improve data quality.
• Supports institutional leaders in reviewing, interpreting, and determining the implications
of various measures of institutional effectiveness.
• Coordinates and participates in the development and analysis of related data.
• Prepares technical and business reports and presentations, and undertake special
projects
QUALIFICATIONS:
• University degree or technical diploma – either from an accredited school
• Project Management or Business Analyst Certification (PMP, CAP, CBAP) or working
towards either designation.
• 3+ years of experience working with datasets, developing KPIs, business intelligence and
analytics
• Familiarity with Higher Education data management, including a Student Information
System (SIS), preferred.
• Ability to multi-task with the flexibility to adjust priorities as business priorities change.
• Demonstrated ability in Business Analysis and process documentation
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Effectively manage meetings with various audience members from all different levels of
the organization and external
• Previous experience managing simultaneous projects
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information
• Ability to pro-actively analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to
resolve issues using independent judgment and decision-making processes
• Knowledge of current practices in institutional research, including ethical use of data and
privacy requirements
• Working knowledge of higher education student data management, PeopleSoft HE,
SalesForce (using EDA) or similar enterprise systems
• Demonstrated ability to manage vendors, including developing, reviewing and scoring
RFPs
• Expert with typical office software (MS Office, Visio, MS Project)
