Position Description:
The Environmental Services Department is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the County’s storm water systems, water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection, solid waste management and wastewater treatment facilities and associated infrastructure.
Reporting to the Manager, Stormwater and Drainage and the Supervisor, Waste Management, the incumbent will:
- Assist with conducting on-site field inspections to verify and collect data to update asset information for culverts, stormwater inlets, catch basins, and other minor stormwater infrastructure.
- Assist in creating and updating stormwater data by organizing, digitizing, scanning, creating maps, and inputting stormwater infrastructure data into the County GIS Database.
- Assist in compiling and organizing relevant stormwater reports, plans, and engineering drawings.
- Assist with the County’s CCTV Program.
- Assist in surveying or inspecting municipal construction and maintenance projects, including construction inspection and documentation, updating work orders, and integrating field information into GIS systems.
- Assist in the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to stormwater operations.
- Provide assistance to the delivery of the Waste Management and Waste Reduction Programs.
- Undertake tasks relative to waste reduction programs, research waste management methods, compile statistics, monitor program progress, and complete data analysis on past and current programs.
- Assist with the design and updating of promotional material for waste management, i.e. brochures, website, collection calendar.
- Complete a curbside set out study and curbside audit of material.
- Assist with residential complaints and questions regarding Waste Reduction Programs, deliver composters throughout Norfolk County.
- Assist with minor maintenance and/or special tasks at County waste management facilities.
- Special projects as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- University or college student enrolled in an environmental related discipline, i.e., Civil or Environmental Engineering course (or related field), Environmental Studies, Geography.
- Valid Class G2 Driver’s License.
- Computer expertise with preference given to students with advanced knowledge in programs such as ArcGIS, and Microsoft Office (Excel and Visio).
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Good time management, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to work in varying climate conditions.
- Able to lift 30 lbs to 50 lbs.
Note:
Must be willing to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
Employment is conditional upon: attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
