Health & Safety Coordinator

Our client is a well-established food processing company who is looking to expand their team.  The company has grown rapidly and has expanded to over 6 manufacturing facilities across Canada and the United States. The company specializes in prepared and sliced meat products to both retail and food service clientele.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct regular health & safety training e.g. WHMIS, Lockout, Forklift, Walkie, Reach Truck, etc
  • Perform hazard assessments of all jobs using Workwell audit format
  • Write SOP’s for jobs identified as ‘high risk’ from the hazard assessment; train employees on the same
  • Conduct new equipment pre-start safety reviews as required
  • Develop monthly safety talk material for Supervisor’s crew talks
  • Coordinate and facilitate WSIB Safety Groups program initiatives
  • Review and follow up on accident/incident reports receive from Supervisors
  • Completion of Form 7’s to WSIB
  • WSIB and Weekly Indemnity Case Management
  • Conducting physical demands job analyses (PDA’s) on all production and related jobs
  • Liaise with doctors, WSIB or Sun life to ensure proper disposition of claims, including accommodating restrictions and/or challenging claims
  • Participate on JHSC, conducting workplace inspections and attending regular meetings
  • Conducting new hire orientations
  • Completion of statistical H&S reporting on a monthly and as-needed basis

Requirements:

 

  • University degree or College Diploma/Certificate in Health & Safety
  • 3-5 years related work experience, gained in a manufacturing environment
  • Experienced in conducting safety audits and assessments of organization and workplaces
  • Independent and self-motivated, demonstrating time management and the ability to deal with issues at first hand.
  • Ability to organize the various functions for which the position is responsible – must be a detailed and analytical individual.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required for presentations, training, generating forms, letters and reports.
  • Computer Skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Travel as required between Southwestern Ontario facilities
  • Reliable vehicle
