Description

The University of Western Ontario is seeking a Financial Officer for the Robarts Research Institute.

 

Robarts Research Institute at the University of Western Ontario is committed to finding breakthroughs in medical research that will improve the length and quality of human lives and the treatment of illnesses.

This is a key administrative role, supporting the Robarts mission and the strategic research plan of Western.  The financial officer ensures the proper use of all financial resources, (operating/endowments/special funds/clinical trials/research) and provides the necessary personnel with the information required to reach objectives in an efficient manner.

He/she will provide expert financial management and budget planning advice to the Scientific Director and Associate Directors of the Robarts, and the Associate Director Finance Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry to ensure that the Institute achieves its overall financial goals and objectives.

The incumbent will provide sound judgment and effective financial expertise for all financial resources and expenditures of the Institute.  This includes responsibility for operating funds, core facilities, clinical trials, endowments and oversight for research funds.

 

Qualifications

 

Education:
-     University Degree in related field and Professional Accounting Designation (CGA, CMA) required
-     B.Comm degree preferred

Experience:
-     At least 5-7 years experience in strategic financial management, budgeting and reporting in an educational or research institution
-     Demonstrated ability to develop complex financial models
-     Experience with fund accounting and budget analysis
-     A sound business background and a demonstrated ability to make decisions

Skills & Expertise:
-     Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
-     Knowledge of university policies and procedures
-     Knowledge of PeopleSoft system
-     Understanding of budgeting/forecasting and data collection
-     Excellent written and oral communications skill
-     Financial strategy implementation
-     Organizational and analytical skills
-     Critical thinking and Problem-Solving
-     Good time management skills
-     Excellent attention to detail
-     Ability to evaluate issues and provide alternative solutions
-     Strong financial system and software package skills i.e. Microsoft Excel and Word, PS query, Access, Power Point, etc.
