Description

We currently have an opening for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join our Performance Engineering team.  This is a permanent, full time opportunity.

Purpose

Responsible for the coordination of all health and safety related activities for KML, including communicating and ensuring that all health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to as per the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related legislation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Champion and lead all health and safety programs and issues to ensure compliance with respect to Corporate policies and legislative requirements.
  • Coordinate, maintain and audit the Company's health & safety program on an on-going basis, including the development, evaluation and maintenance of the Health and Safety manual.
  • Institue a proactive approach to accident prevention by continually assessing the ergonomics of Company work processes and analyzing trends for first aid, medical aid, lost time, etc. and work to implement programs to reduce workplace injuries/illnesses in high incidence categories.
  • Identify and report new trends, changes in legislative requirements and provide advice/guidance on all matters relating to Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Create and communicate related policies and procedures
  • Recommend, coordinate and conduct related training programs, including developing training plans, designing training materials, facilitating and coordinating training sessions.
  • Maintain updated WHMIS program requirements.
  • Provide reports and statistical data to the Human Resources Manager as required.
  • Management Co-chair of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC); responsible for overseeing the meetings, taking notes & posting the minutes in a timely manner & coordinating workplace inspections.
  • Analyze JHSC concerns, accident reports and make suggestions

Qualifications and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable health & safety legislation
  • 3+ years Health and Safety background preferably in a manufacturing setting
  • Previous facilities Environmental experience considered an asset
  • Experience in internal auditing for Ministry of Environment regulatory compliance, CofA etc considered an asset.
  • Computer literate; capable of working with MS Office & AutoCAD software
  • Ability to effectively maintain confidentiality, professionalism and diplomacy
  • Strong planning, organizational and excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Possesses a sound technical knowledge of machinery
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency
  • Analytical with strong problem-solving skills
