Job Description

PURPOSE:  To improve overall cost effectiveness of engineering and manufacturing in real terms of productivity, quality, and through-put time, by implementation of technological advancement and a systematic program for new enhanced tools, processes, materials, and products.  The focus is on being a key contributor to one or more facets of varied projects with the skills and abilities reflective of professional training.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Identify, evaluate, and make specific recommendations for cost improvement projects.
  • Prepare technical definition of assigned projects, including goals and objective scope of work, timing, and product/levels of manufacture affected.
  • Coordinate new product/process introduction from concept stage, through the materials and components, methods and processes, costing, feasibility studies and prototypes, to commercial production capability.
  • Select, justify acquisition, and implement new and modification to, production equipment and plant facilities.
  • Provide alternative back-up/overload processes and conversely, expand versatility of existing process capability.
  • Design, source, and monitor fabrication and introduction of production tools and product materials.
  • Communicates with vendors (i.e. to coordinate quotes, prototypes and production plans).
  • Introduce workstation ergonomics, health and safety enhancements, material handling, workflow, plant layouts, and packaging techniques.
  • Develop complete intermediate level work plans for small projects/sub projects/assignments, including expense/capital estimates and cost/benefit analysis.
  • Coach, guide and train less experienced staff on technical issues within immediate work area.
 
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience
  • Minimum three to five years experience as a Process Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • Understands and applies methodologies associated with project planning.
  • Experience in applying basic engineering analytical skills (SPC, process capability etc) to resolve problems and to satisfy customer issues and market requirements.
     
Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects from initial request to implementation.
  • Ability to work with other functional areas on projects and assignments
  • Must have strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently toward the completion of specifically defined tasks, including the latitude to coordinate activities outside immediate work area and change personal priorities in order to carry out assignment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude with the ability to interact effectively with other departments.
