Job SummarySupport the Engineering manager with the planning and leading the Engineering department in design and development of customer projects / products and the R& D of new materials and technologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Liaison to Vuteq Manufacturing facilities and Customer Design/Engineering departments.
- Ensure designs are assembly and manufacturing feasible by leading design study functions directly with the customer utilizing strong CAD skills and process knowledge.
- BOM creation and management as required.
- Lead/participate in the creation of DFMEA and incorporate necessary actions into design.
- Attend or lead project meetings.
- Manage both internal and Customer open issues list for product design issues, support issue resolution to the customer timeline.
- Support program financial targets and cost reduction initiatives by generating cost reduction ideas.
- Calculate ROI, return on investment proposals and present to management.
- Promote and develop a procedure driven engineering department.
- Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department.
- Investigate / benchmark similar products.
- Support tooling / equipment cost control.
- Support cost estimation.
- Effectively train and develop other team members as necessary.
- Keep up to date with advancements in technology and material.
- Understand manufacturing process, lead and create initial process concepts for new business. Understand process time study.
- Understand and complete capacity planning.
- Complete technical presentations both internally and to external customers.
- Demonstrate ownership of the product.
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
- Conduct statistical analysis of data (performance/dimensional) to understand trends and implement corrective action.
- Develop and maintain positive and productive professional relationships with internal (Vuteq) and external customers.
- Work effectively across cultures in a global environment.
Education
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
- CATIA V5, Unigraphics, solidworks
- DFMEA, PFMEA
- Manufacturing software (Cimatron)
- MS Office (particularly Excel, PowerPoint)
- Expert level injection molding knowledge and experience
- Excellent knowledge of plastics & other automotive interior/exterior materials.
Physical Effort and Requirements of this Position
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee must regularly lift/ move up to 10 lbs and occasionally life/ move up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and distance.
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
- Base location is Vuteq Canada, travel to Customer is necessary. Short to long term on site work at Customer may be required
