Job Description

GKN Sinter Metals is a Tier 1 supplier of powdered metal components to Ford, DaimlerChrysler and General Motors.  The facility, located in St. Thomas, employs approximately 150 people and manufactures hubs, races, planetary carriers, sensor rings, and pocket plates.

 

We currently have a vacancy in our Quality Department for a Process Technician.  In this capacity, the incumbent will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Assisting in the establishment and modification of process parameters for the manufacture of new and existing parts.

 

  • Providing technical information to the quality control department.

 

  • Establishing physical testing procedures for inspection to implement, enable control of the physical requirements for the respective products during production runs.

 

  • Liaise with tool design department to provide technical data as required.

 

  • Act in an advisory capacity to production and other departments on technical concerns affecting production.

 

  • Use computerized data collection analysis to aid in bringing statistical process control techniques into effect.

 

  • Develop and implement processes and establish equipment capabilities as required.

 

  • Assist in the design and implementation of tool design criteria when required. 

 

  • Evaluate tooling layouts to assist in the setup of new sample jobs.

 

  • Assist in setup and implementation of systems to meet SQA requirements.

 

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervision

 

We are looking for a self starter who is a progressive thinker and is able to help implement change and make improvements.

 

The incumbent must have a post-secondary education preferably in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering Technology or Technician along with one to three years of related experience in a manufacturing environment.  The individual should have a strong working knowledge of AutoCad, SPC, problem-solving and non-destructive testing. The candidate must also be capable of working on a three-shift operation as well as occasional overtime when necessary.
