The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is one of four departments in the Faculty of Engineering.  Faculty and staff in the department support and foster the educational and research pursuits of undergraduate and graduate engineering students, while providing the best student experience.

The Administrative Officer leads a team of individuals who form the administrative and technical unit of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE).  The Administrative Officer manages the CEE Department Office and supports the Department Chair in the administration and effective operation of the Department.  The incumbent will administer the organization's policies, and direct and coordinate the activities of the department.  The Administrative Officer will have responsibilities for Human Resources functions including performance management, assisting with staff planning, and recruitment.  The incumbent will also have accountabilities relating to financial management including the prioritization of the department needs, and developing the department annual operating budget.

Education:
-   University Degree in Administrative or Management studies or equivalent
-   Completion of some Human Resources and Accounting courses at the Community College level
-   Completion of some leadership courses (i.e., CIM, Leader Effectiveness Training, or equivalent)

Experience:
-   5 years' experience supporting administrative processes in a Faculty
-   Experience developing and maintaining a budget
-   Demonstrated staff management experience with an ability to develop a strong department team, coupled with an ability to work effectively as a member of the management team
-   Two years' experience supporting a Department Chair or Senior University Administrator preferred

-   Possesses a reputation for resourcefulness with a strong sense of accountability and initiative
-   Ability to assimilate new information quickly
-   Demonstrated analytical ability and knowledge of accounting principles
-   Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
-   Working knowledge of professional accreditation processes and professional schools
-   Strong leadership and people management skills
-   Knowledge of Western policies and procedures would be an asset
-   Knowledge of the Employment Standards Act
-   Excellent interpersonal skills and strong relationship management, influencing and collaboration skills
-   Creative problem solving skills with sound professional judgment and decision making
-   Ability to work effectively in a team environment, including actively contributing to committees and working groups
-   Advanced computer skills in  Microsoft Office
-   Intermediate computer skills in website content management system and Publisher
-   Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
-   Adherence to the principles of Confidentiality and FIPPA regulations
