Job Summary
Reporting to the President of Vuteq Canada and liaising with Japan’s Corporate Head Office: Technical Division, this individual will direct, plan, and lead the Design Engineering department in design and development of customer products including the research and development of new materials and technologies.
Responsibilities
- Lead the product design research and development activity
- Lead the product design with the customer engineering department and design teams and ensure compliance with the necessary quality and performance specifications
- Develop new materials and processes based on our customers’ needs and trends
- Lead product design benchmarking activities
- Lead the design engineering team in growth and technical development
- Direct, review and approve product design and changes
- Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demands, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
- Lead the transfer of new technology/material development in engineering to production
- Prepare or support budgets, bids, contracts, and direct the negotiation of research
- Coordinate department activity to support group companies
Additional Responsibilities
- Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department
- Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing policies, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services
- Recruit team members, assign, direct and evaluate their work, ensuring they have the resources to complete all task, and develop the team
- Manage department resources related to equipment and tools (CAD, testing, prototype, etc.) ensuring compliance with Vuteq and Customer requirements
- Handle customers and suppliers to formulate development plans, products, and designs (injection molding, interiors, laminations, etc.)
- Finding alternate solutions; better, more efficient, and cost-effective
- Assisting in all areas of the company; R&D, design, liaison, sales, etc.
- Make presentations on behalf of the company; generate reports, documents, etc.
- Support company direction and advancements off opportunities; future development, etc.
Job Qualifications
Education
- Master’s degree in science or related field
Experience
- 8-10 years’ experience with engineering product development
- 8-10 years’ experience in a guest engineer scenario, working as Lead Designer with customer on customer’s design
- Must have a minimum of 8-10 years’ experience with Toyota customer design
- 5-10 years’ experience coordinating engineering projects and managing a team to ensure compliance with customer standards
- Ideal candidate will have experience with automotive interiors, injection molding, and lamination
- Experience with PPAP, APQP, DFMEA, PFMEA, and design review meetings
- Experience with plastic product development and manufacturing
- Able to work in cross-functional teams (design, CAE, manufacturing) to fund cost effective, reliable solutions
- Knowledge of how to gather customer requirements, create technical presentations, and clearly present solutions to customer
- Must be flexible, ambitious, enthusiastic, and a proven leader – able to assist in all areas
- Fluent in both Japanese and English (oral, reading, and written) a definite asset
Computer Skills
- Design software (Catia V5, NX/Unigraphics)
- Manufacturing software (Cimatron)
- MS Office products (especially Excel, PowerPoint)

Physical Effort and Requirements of this Position
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee must regularly lift/ move up to 10lbs and occasionally lift/move up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and distance.

- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
Work Location
- Base location is Vuteq Canada (920 Keyes Drive, Woodstock, Ontario, N4S 0A7
- Travel to customers, suppliers, or other Vuteq locations is required

Salary
The expected salary for this position is $104 000/year.
