The 150TH Anniversary of Canada Celebration is a partnership initiative with the City of London Culture Office, the London Celebrates Canada not-for-profit organization, and the London Heritage Council not-for-profit organization.  London City Council on July 29, 2014 provided London Celebrates Canada with ongoing operational funding for four years from 2014 to 2017, for the purpose of hiring the 150th Anniversary of Canada Coordinator. The London Heritage Council was also provided with ongoing operational funding for this time period to provide for the administration and supervision of the 150th Anniversary of Canada Coordinator.

The Coordinator will work with the 150th Anniversary of Canada Programming Committee whose purpose is to engage the community leading up to and including 2017 through educational programs, activities, events exhibitions and premier Canada celebrations to install pride and commitment to Canada on both an individual and community level. 

The Culture Office will oversee the administration of the 150th Anniversary of Canada.  The Programming Committee will be responsible for developing a detailed Operational Program Plan and overseeing its implementation for the 150th Anniversary of Canada.

The Coordinator will be located in the London Heritage Council office and will report directly to the London Heritage Council (LHC) Executive Director. The LHC is contracted by the City of London, through the Culture Office, over the term of Council to deliver and administer heritage programs and services and implementation of London’s Cultural Prosperity Plan.

Job purpose
Act as the lead in planning, fund developing, marketing and executing, events, celebrations, commemorations and programming, leading up to and including 2017, for London, ON, with guidance from the 150th Anniversary of Canada Programming Committee. The Coordinator will take advantage of leveraging opportunities with community groups and organizations to benefit London. The community expects to find 150th Anniversary of Canada Programming, well organized, inclusive and memorable.
The Coordinator will be located in the London Heritage Council office and will report directly to the London Heritage Council (LHC) Executive Director.  The LHC is contracted by the City of London, through the Culture Office, over the term of Council to deliver and administer heritage programs and services and implementation of London’s Cultural Prosperity Plan.
This is a contract position, terminating December 31st, 2017.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Work with Programming Committee partners to design and plan, and implement events and programming leading up to, and for 2017, which will be agreed upon to form the 150th Anniversary Program Plan of the Programming Committee 
  • Identify funding sources, write and edit funding applications and proposals for events
  • Identify, pursue and manage prospective community partnerships in relation to events
  • Assist with tourism marketing and promotion efforts
  • Provide creative input given to website concept, draft website content
  • Write and edit all content for event deliverables
  • Create and file event funding reports
  • Steward event sponsors, partners and funders throughout the course of the project
  • Give public presentations related to events, and programming
  • Facilitate meetings, prepare agendas, take and distribute minutes as required
  • Manage, train and coordinate event and programming volunteers
  • Serve as the primary contact person for event and programming related inquiries
  • Attend event and staff related meetings as required
  • Attend designated committee meetings
 
 
Knowledge and Skills
150th Anniversary of Canada Coordinator, London will have the following qualifications;
  • Demonstrated experience in event planning and volunteer management
  • Knowledge and understanding of marketing and promotion
  • Proven grant writing and fundraising abilities
  • General awareness London community
  • Experience with non-profit sector and business sector in London
  • Responsible, meticulous, able to work autonomously and under tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for effective relationship building
  • Demonstrated team player attitude
  • A versatile, highly organized and stringent eye for detail
  • Out of the box thinking
  • Proficiency in a fully computerized environment and especially MS Office ( Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access)
  • Strong communication, writing, reading and oral skills in English
 
Working conditions
  • Contract, termination date December 31st 2017
  • 40 hours weekly, generally Monday to Friday.
  • Flexible hours, some evening and weekend work may be required. Lieu time will be given for extra time worked.
  • Vehicle is required.
  • Some travel may be required; and will be compenstated.
