JOB PROFILE:

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager will be responsible for 2 plants within our Ontario operations. The Operations Manager will oversee the employees within the plants, including production, maintenance, shipping/receiving, and fleet trucking. This role ensures the safe, timely, efficient production of animal feed products, product quality, capital planning, forecasting, tracking and reporting the results to the Senior Management. This individual will lead and support safety programs and initiatives and other strategic objectives. The Operations Manager is expected to conduct all matters in a manner consistent with Shur-Gain, a Nutreco company’s Corporate Values of Innovation, Caring, Capable, and Collaboration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to all functional areas within the operations;
  • Facilitates clear communication between other departments including but not limited to; Customer Service, Quality, Nutrition/Formulation, Procurement, Finance and Sales;
  • Responsibility to develop and maintain both Operating & Capital budgets;
  • Follow the KPI’s and create action plans to meet the KPI’s;
  • Strong project management and lean manufacturing background, working closely with internal staff and outside vendors to improve the facilities;
  • Identify and drive opportunities for plant efficiencies and continuous improvements including; plant productivity, cost control and process improvement;
  • Working closely with the operations staff to prepare business plans for the procurement of new systems and machinery, ensuring the proper corporate standards and processes are being met;
  • Lead regulatory compliance, including and Workplace Safety and Health, HACCP, GMP’s working closely with the quality department;
  • Ensures that all machinery and equipment in the Mill is properly maintained through a preventative maintenance program;
  • Responsible for the management of all fleet activities including scheduling, maintenance, compliance, and timely delivery;
  • Hires, advises, counsels, evaluates and disciplines employees reporting to him/her and recommends changes in compensation to the Human Resources within an established process;
  • Oversee the Production Supervisors and ensure standards are being met.

PREFERRED HIRING CRITERIA:

  • Minimum 5 years related experience managing process improvement, production or similar experience in feed production manufacturing;
  • 3-5 years’ experience managing/supervising people;  Post-secondary education in Engineering or related field would be considered an asset;
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word;
  • Ability to quickly prioritize individual responsibilities and effectively manage time;
  • Analytical skills with attention to detail;
  • Strong knowledge of livestock agricultural practices would be considered an asset.
