DONOR RELATIONS SPECIALIST
(This is a newly created permanent full-time role)
Role
Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy, is accountable for stewarding Donors, Fund holders and external and internal stakeholders.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Works with the Director, Philanthropy to set goals and objectives for the departmental work plan and Leadership Development Committee. Assists with the execution of a donor relations plan.
  • Conducts prospect research and assists with identifying prospects.
  • Assists with the recruitment of participants, guest speakers, mentors and development of the Engage! London Program.
  • Focuses on the stewardship of Donor Advised, Donor Designated and in the support of Community Mobilization projects, as required. Provides granting recommendations for Donor Advised Donors.
  • Assists the Director when representing the Foundation in the community.
  • Ensures good use and development of up-to-date research and data base management, using the Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Assists the Board, Foundation’s Committee members, volunteers and Staff to advocate on behalf of the Foundation with educational materials, tools and knowledge.
  • Develops solicitation proposals as directed by Director, Philanthropy and President & CEO.
  • Updates database with donor/prospect information.
  • Assists with the development of Fund Agreements.
  • Supports the Manager, Communications in proposals requesting Corporate sponsorship support.
  • Assists with the creation of customized donor acknowledgment letters and mailings.
 

 
Qualifications
Education
  • University degree or college diploma in sales or marketing or equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
Training
  • Is willing to grow expertise in charitable tax and gift planning.
 
Professional Development
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation, or active enrollment, is an asset.
 
Skills
  • A passion for “Community Building”.
  • Skilled in working with the Foundation’s stakeholders groups.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building abilities (a true “friend-raiser”).
  • Entrepreneurial, resourceful, tenacious and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a strong volunteer base to effectively leverage these human assets in the achievement of the organization’s goals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills:  listening, verbal, written, presentation.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills.
  • Attention to detail, focus on overall process improvement.
  • Team builder, team player, includes ability to help optimize an integrated approach across program areas in order to achieve synergies to maximize organizational achievements.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer systems.
 
Experience
  • 3-5 years demonstrated success in fundraising, sales and/or marketing with specific experience in major gifts fundraising.
  • Experience working with volunteers and committees.
 
Other
  • A current Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
