Job Description

Summary of Duties

Works under the direction of a Fleet Supervisor II or designate. Responsible for a wide range of mechanical service, inspection and repair activities to municipal vehicles and equipment to a level of competency expected of a Motor Vehicle Technician holding a 310T and 310S Technician License and Certificate of Qualification.

Work Performed

Conducts repairs, service and inspections on a variety of engine types including but not limited to gasoline, diesel, CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and propane in accordance with established methods and procedures;

 

Focus on quality customer service and continuous improvement. Supporting the corporate values and strategic plans of the City of London

 

Performs repairs, maintenance, service and inspections on light, medium and heavy duty vehicles and equipment that are part of the City of London municipal fleet;

 

Works from prescribed service manuals (hardcopy and electronic), technical reference materials, manufacturer specifications and schematic diagrams;

 

Inspects, removes and replaces wheel and rim assemblies as required;

 

Undertakes and is accountable for Ministry of Transportation of Ontario Inspections including associated repairs in compliance with the regulatory standards and signs the appropriate forms and reports prescribed as authorization and validation of the work completed;

 

Responsible for diagnosis, maintenance and repair to a wide variety of mechanical systems including but not limited to electrical, electronic, pneumatic, steering, brakes, suspension, hydraulics, emission control systems, ignition, fuel, engines and drivetrain to all types of vehicles and equipment in the fleet;

 

Uses hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment as well as precision instruments and specialized diagnostic equipment. Inspects and maintains that equipment in good working order and reports all defects;

 

Checks and verifies their completed work to ensure safety standards and satisfactory operation.

 

Performs electric and acetylene welding and cutting as required related to vehicle and equipment service and repair.

 

Prepares and maintains written and/or electronic work records such as time sheets, work orders, parts lists and inspection sheets. Documents work activities and time in automated fleet management system (JDE) and payroll system (Kronos)

 

Moves all types of vehicles and equipment in and out of work area.

 

Maintains a neat, tidy and clean work space and maintains compliance with maximum tool box configurations established by the City;

 

Recommends changes to procedures and methods as necessary;

 

Periodically assumes supervisory duties over others. May be required to assist with Apprenticeship Candidates and/or Co-Op employees;

 

As assigned, performs other related duties which are transient, or of an emergency nature, or which are minor but recurring.

Qualifications/Experience

Successful completion of Grade 12 in the Province of Ontario or equivalent, plus;

 

Preferred candidate has successfully completed both 310T (Truck and Coach) and 310S (Automotive) Technician. 

 

Consideration will be given to candidates that have their 310T licence and are able to obtain their 310S licence within 36 months. 

Specialized Training & Licenses

310 T (Truck and Coach) license from the Ontario Ministry of College and Universities.

 

310 S (Automotive) from the Ontario Ministry of College and Universities OR ABITLITY TO OBTAIN within 36 months, with assistance from the City of London.

 

Ability to obtain Valid Internal Combustion Alternate Fuel Certificates, ICE-NG (Natural Gas) and ICE-P (Propane), with assistance from the City of London. 

 

Consideration will be given to candidates that have their 310T licence and are able to obtain their 310S licence within 36 months.

 

DZ Driver's License (or ability to obtain within 6 months).

 

Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable legislation and regulations governing Motor Vehicle Technicians.

 

Note: Shift work is required.

Compensation and Other Information

$35.42 - $39.38 per hour
