Big Viking Games

Job Description

Who are we?

Armed with a handful of gifted developers, Big Viking Games sailed into action in 2011, set on taking the social and mobile gaming world by storm. From Facebook to iOS, Big Viking Games has demonstrated a mastery of the free-to-play model on a variety of platforms. In a short time, the company has proudly amassed millions of loyal fans across its many popular titles with no signs of slowing down. In just three years, we've grown from humble beginnings in London, ON to over 70 Vikings with a second development studio in Toronto, ON. With even bigger goals for 2015, Big Viking Games will need reinforcements. And that's where you come in.

The nitty-gritty:

We’re searching for a highly motivated and creative Senior Product Manager for either our London, ON or Toronto, ON studio to manage multiple projects and produce games from start to finish. With a track record of success in project management, you’ll craft a vision for a variety of top-notch games. A proven leader, you will manage and inspire teams to excel while ensuring quality standards are met. Working alongside our data analyst, game designers and marketing, you’ll set priorities and action plans that are measurable. If this describes you, drop us a line.

The Duties:

  • Motivated and organized, you will execute your vision & plan to bring social and mobile games to life from concept to launch and beyond.
  • A planning mastermind, you will create product roadmaps to meet goals while measuring performance. The right Viking will be able to think on their feet and make adjustments on the fly.
  • You'll promote a stimulating and fun work environment. Like game development Disneyland but with more user feedback and less roller coasters.
  • You will manage multiple teams of Vikings from a variety of disciplines, maintaining close communications to ensure requirements and quality standards are being met.
  • A champion of your product, you will own responsibility for the success and growth of your games.
  • Foster positive working relationships with internal and external parties. Who said Vikings aren't personable?
  • A meticulous professional, you will assist in improving development process and best practices.
  • You're on the up and up with game market trends, patterns, competitors, and customer requirements. If there is a game out there, you know of it, you've played it and you've figured out what makes it tick!

The Essentials:
  • 5-7 years of game production experience preferred
  • 3+ years of free-to-play experience required
  • Technical background (i.e. computer science, engineering or math) and/or technical product management experience a strong bonus
  • A wealth of project management experience. For you, managing projects is like taking candy from a baby, and then turning that candy into a game.
  • An e-mail inbox in the double digits is your norm and you're capable of managing multiple projects at a high level to provide a balanced perspective for team members
  • Experience managing, mitigating and resolving conflict. Essentially, Problem Solver is your middle name. Your parents were eccentric.
  • Data analysis / data driven design experience preferred. Some Vikings crunch bones, you prefer to crunch numbers.
  • Must have experience hiring and building high performance teams. Vikings assemble!
  • Experience managing all aspects of production

Bonus Points:
  • Social and/or mobile  game development experience will put you ahead of the pack
  • Experience producing free-to-play titles will put you so far ahead you won't even be able to see the pack. The pack will be a dot in your horizon.
  • You have an affinity for gaming

The Loot:
  • Competitive salaries with generous time off policies
  • Health, dental, vision, life and disability benefits
  • Employee stock option plan; this way we all get to celebrate in the success
  • We are proud to be self-funded because this allows us to work and deliver the projects we are proud of
  • We frequently celebrate hitting milestones after work or even in the middle of the afternoon by going to paintball, movies, Canada's Wonderland, and a patio to name a few in addition to various in-studio events.  All work and no play makes for a dull Viking.
  • Stocked kitchen, breakfast & hot catered lunches daily! Viking can't work on an empty stomach.
  • A gaming lounge with competition grade foosball, Street Fighter 2 Classic Arcade Machine, XBOX 360 & PS4. Kick back and relax or dominate your fellow Vikings (in a totally HR friendly way).
  • If you cannot live without caffeine like us, we have an arsenal of freshly roasted coffee beans which can be crafted into great coffees, espressos or lattes just for you!
  • Free in-studio registered massage therapy. Viking muscles need love too.

Becoming a Viking:

Are you cut from our cloth? Does the idea of working for a gaming company and doing what you love every day get you so excited you kind of want to scream? Great! Send us your resume and cover letter.

Big Viking Games is committed to providing accommodations for people with disabilities. If you require an accommodation, we will work with you to meet your needs. Accommodation may be provided in all parts of the hiring process.
