Through a recent unification process, Anago (Non) Residential Resources Inc. and WAYS Mental Health Support have come together to combine over 100 years of history delivering high-quality services and support for children, youth and adults with specialized needs, and their families/caregivers. Collectively, we are known for providing crisis support; personalized mental health services; supports for community participation and transition to independent living, and safe, therapeutic, educational environments where at-risk children, youth, and vulnerable adults are able to connect, grow and thrive.

Humana Community Services is currently seeking applicants to join our direct support team as a Part-Time Direct Care Worker. This position requires someone who is dedicated to creating safe and supportive environments for people, and who are committed to working from an empathetic and strengths-based approach. This takes energy, patience, adaptability, creativity and flexibility in the workplace. This position requires a professional who is confident in navigating conflict, overcoming obstacles, and who is creative in providing support to participants in crisis.

This position involves working in a residential setting - a 24/7 site providing support to adults with developmental and behavioural challenges. Successful applicants will ensure provisions of care to people supported are met on a daily basis in all areas of their individual needs (medical, personal, physical, financial, hygienic, social recreational, emotional, developmental) in compliance with legislated requirements and company policies and procedures. We are looking for individuals who are able to remain calm and focused in crisis, who have excellent de-escalation, decision-making skills, and who are reliable.

Qualifications:
• Completion of related post-secondary education (Social Work, DSW, SSW, CYC or equivalent)
• Minimum two (2) years related experience preferred
• Experience in supporting complex needs and behavioral challenges
• Ability to establish therapeutic relationships on the basis of respect and trust
• Ability to lead people through a process of self-evaluation and goal setting
• Demonstrated understanding of support requirements specific to people with developmental challenges
• Experience supporting people with daily living while pursuing leisure and recreational opportunities
• Ability to write clear, concise observations on behaviour
• Ability to use sound judgement and make independent decisions based on Policies and Procedures
• Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills; attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Bilingualism is considered an asset

Requirements:
• Valid Ontario G Driver's License
• Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check
• Current immunizations and physical health assessment
• Current Standard First Aid & CPR level C
• De-escalation and restraint certification; Crisis Management Training; SMG

Position details:
• Starting wage: $20.84/hr plus paid vacation
• Location: London, ON
• Skills training available to meet mandatory training requirements
• Shift work is required, including evenings, weekends, overnights and public holidays
• 24/7 on-call support
