POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the General Manager, the buyer will form an integral part of the purchasing function in the achievement of operational objectives. With a strong, solid background in purchasing and supply chain management, the candidate will take a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations and implementing changes. This role is key to leading the company forward in securing quality suppliers of materials and components covering price delivery and quality targets. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 

• Managing and controlling the company’s external suppliers with particular emphasis on the purchase of materials and finished parts for production.
• Ensure parts and materials are bought at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production.
• Participate with plant managers in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials.
• Establish strategic relationships with key suppliers who are aligned to the company's needs.
• Identify new suppliers, agree terms and negotiate supply agreements where appropriate, including discount structures and volume rebates.
• Continually improve purchasing methods and drive down external spend.
• Analyze market and delivery systems in order to assess present and future material availability.
• Manage material costs and maintain stringent material control to ensure company targets are met. This would include spend, usage, scrap, inventory levels.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
 

• Degree, Diploma, or equivalent in a business related subject
• Minimum 5 years previous experience in a purchasing role, managing and coordinating all purchasing activities with relation to cost, delivery and quality performance
• Track record of controlling and reducing external spend while developing a robust supplier base.
• Ability to take a proactive approach to overcome challenges and achieve results
• Proven appreciation of customer service expectations and cost demands of business
• Able to travel, sometimes on short notice
• MS Office and SAP experience
