Summary of Duties

Under the direction of Manager, Housing or designate, the intern will conduct research (including best practices), perform analysis, and report on a comparison of local Housing policies. Also, the intern will assist Housing Division staff in documenting and processing mapping current processes to identifying efficiencies.

Work Performed

  • Conducts research (qualitative & quantitative) into existing Municipal Housing business practises, policies, and procedures via the internet, telephone and in person
  • Performs analysis and assimilates new information for the purpose of determining best practices, contextual relevance, and opportunities to create efficiencies
  • Assists in the evaluation of data and creation of reports that will be used to improve compliance with current legislation and customer experiences.
  • Engages with other municipalities, service areas, divisions and staff for the purpose of researching and compiling relevant information
  • Maintains collected data in an organized, confidential, and easily accessible way
  • Assists in the development of information/ reports in various formats using power point, Adobe, photography, e-mail, video, news releases, brochures, including updates to housing website
  • Prepares and distributes agendas and minutes; books meetings, and follows up on outstanding items
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • An Under Graduate Degree which includes a Human Studies component involving research, analysis and demonstrates an understanding of municipal government.
  • Must have proven judgment and a good knowledge of client services, as well as process analysis and risk assessment techniques.
  • Experience working on complex and customized solutions and project planning.
  • Ability to assimilate and summarize large amounts of data.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interface with stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills (written and oral).
  • Competent computer skills including; Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Adobe Acrobat and online survey software

 

Eligibility under the City of London Internship Program as follows (see below):

 

MUST MEET CRITERIA AS EITHER A NEW IMMIGRANT, PERSON WITH SELF-DECLARED DISABILITY WHICH POSES EMPLOYMENT BARRIERS OR RECENT LOCAL POSTSECONDARY GRADUATE.

 

New immigrant:

• New to Canada within the past 3 years, and

• Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education institute with Canadian equivalency, and

• English benchmark level 6 or above, and Connected with an academic or employment support agency, and

• Legally entitled to work in Canada.

 

OR

Person with self-declared disability which poses employment barriers:

• Limited work experience in their chosen field, and

• Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education institute, and

• Connected with an academic or employment support agency.

 

OR

Recent local post-secondary graduate:

• London resident who has graduated from a recognized post-secondary education institute within the past year and has limited work experience in their chosen field, OR

• Graduate of a London area recognized post-secondary education institute within the past year, but not currently living in London

• Limited work experience in their chosen field.
