Employment Specialists and Support Workers report to the Manager-Employment and Skill Development Services. We currently have full time (35 hours per week) positions available, one of which is a Maternity Leave coverage position.
Working Conditions
Leads offers competitive salary packages, an incredible work environment, and career advancement opportunities. Wages range from $17.00 to $22.00 per hour depending on experience.

Summary
The Employment Specialist and Support Worker assists individuals with disabilities in developing and enhancing skills to seek & retain employment; assessing labour market; connecting with employers to promote employment opportunities; building a trusting relationship with employers and advocates; building partnership with the community; providing support on and or off job site to improve job retention; support employers in providing accommodations or client’s work related issues; documentation.Job Duties
- Provide leadership, professional resource and support to Leads’ clients.
- Labour Market research.
- Work to find employment and employment related community connections.
- Ensure the Manager is kept up to date with essential matters weekly.
- Research and develop new initiatives, based the individual Employment Action Plan and current initiatives.
- Establish priorities for action, especially when resources are insufficient to meet the service objectives.
- Monitor community needs and trends so that these may be reflected in Leads’ programs and services.
- Develop partnerships with others in the community and provide community education through formal and informal presentations.
- Maintain relationships and attend committee meetings with others in the community, including customers and social service colleagues.
- Work with concern for the health, safety and well being of others.
- Develop own professional growth and development within the priorities and limitations of Leads.
- Positively promote and maintain the vision, mission and policies of Leads and the people it supports.
- Maintain confidentiality of Leads’ affairs and customer and staff records pursuant to Leads’ policy.
- Take all reasonable care to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
- Knowledgeable concerning any actual or potential danger to health and safety in the workplace and community.
- Participate in all mandatory training.
- Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of others.
- Complete incident reports and report accidents and/or injuries within stipulated time frames.
- Undertake special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree, graduate degree or equivalent Community College diploma in Business/Social Servicers /Human Services/Education or relevant field of study.
- A minimum three years’ experience in a related experience in in Business/Social Servicers /Human Services/Education or relevant sector.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility to work hours to accommodate client’s needs.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner.
- Ability to work effectively within a team approach as well as independently.
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills in MS Word, Excel and e-mail required.
- Politically and culturally sensitive.
- High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
- Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to privacy.
- Must be able to be depended upon to plan and organize work effectively and ensure its completion.
- Must have reliable transportation to provide services in the London office city and surrounding county locations.
- Bilingual in French would be an asset
Working Conditions
- Interact with individuals, family members, staff, visitors and government agencies.
- Travel will be required.
- Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
- Overtime as required.
- Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting clients.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening Criminal Check.
