Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
The primary function of this position is to provide general maintenance services to Madame Vanier Children’s Services and to maintain a safe and comfortable environment for children and staff.
 
MAJOR DUTIES
  • assists in regular preventative activities in a timely fashion, e.g.  monthly and annual preventative maintenance on equipment and grounds maintenance including care of sidewalk and fences
  • assists lead hand on general maintenance inside buildings and on grounds
  • completes emergency repairs such as burst water or heating pipes, overflowing toilets, damage to vans, broken windows, breakdowns and damage
  • cleans and disinfects garbage room floor Tuesday and Friday
  • visual inspections of cottage smoke and heat detectors, emergency and exit lights
  • runs errands as required
  • cleans filters above main kitchen stove and chemically treats grease trap
  • cleans windows of three buildings outside and upper level windows of cottages
  • Paints and stains various surfaces
  • covers duties of Maintenance Mechanic III when on vacation/absent
  • monitors service on agency vans regularly, initiates, on approval, of Support Services Manager or Director of Finance & Administration, needed repairs and records mileage
  • other duties as assigned
 
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma
  • Post secondary education in a trade or industrial field
  • at least two years in related maintenance and building trades
  • experience in troubleshooting equipment
  •  Valid driver’s license
  •  Training in building trades such as carpentry, dry walling, electrical repairs, plumbing.
