The Faculty of Engineering is dedicated to the advancement of learning through teaching and research and to the discovery and application of knowledge in selected engineering disciplines. It seeks to develop people with talents and skills who will provide internationally significant leadership to serve the interests of society.

The Communications team supports the Faculty of Engineering in its goal to be recognized for its innovative programs, leading edge research and outstanding student experience. The unit articulates and delivers Western Engineering's central messages in a clear, consistent, engaging and strategic manner and manages the positioning, image and reputation of the faculty.
 
The Communication Manager provides senior level strategic marketing and communications direction to the Faculty of Engineering. The incumbent designs, implements, coordinates and assesses a broad range of communication strategies that positively position Western Engineering as a progressive, innovative Engineering school locally, nationally and internationally.  The Communication Manager interacts daily with senior leaders in Western Engineering and with the Department of Communications and Public Affairs (C&PA) on a wide variety of initiatives to support this mandate. The incumbent is accountable for the planning, implementing and budgeting for all internal and external communication activities, including media relations, faculty/staff communications and branding/marketing initiatives.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   University Degree in business, communications, public relations or a related field

Experience:
-   5 years' progressive experience, including experience at a senior level in a strategic communications capacity
-   Demonstrated project management experience
-   Communications or public relations experience in an academic setting is preferred
-   Knowledge of the engineering profession is preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Extensive knowledge of strategic planning processes and the ability to write strategic communications plans
-   Ability to recognize and understand complex issues and their implications on image and reputation
-   Strong analytic research skills and the ability to use market research information strategically to improve and enhance communications to target audiences in support of the Faculty and University brand
-   Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships
-   Superior demonstrated presentation and communication skills with the ability to write in both journalistic and marketing styles
-   Ability to think creatively and use a non-prescriptive approach in marketing and communication initiatives
-   Professional manner, tact, diplomacy and discretion when dealing with colleagues, alumni, media and the community
-   Strong project management skills and ability to execute creative and cost effective marketing and communications projects - maintain a number of projects simultaneously with competing timelines and priorities
