Facilities Management is responsible for the planning, development, engineering, construction, operation, maintenance and stewardship of all the buildings, infrastructure, sites and services within Western's campus community.  Our integrated Team provides excellence in creating and maintaining Western's facilities and in serving the community.  Our vision is to be recognized as the leader in facilities management among research-intensive universities worldwide.

The Director, Building Services supports Western's Strategic Plan, "Achieving Excellence on the World Stage," by ensuring a clean, safe environment for Western's faculty, staff, students and visitors.  This requires oversight of more than 90 structures ranging from stately Collegiate Gothic to gleaming state-of-the art research facilities, as well as two research parks.  You will plan and manage an annual operating budget of $13 million, and have 275 employees in your portfolio. 

As a member of Facilities Management's integrated leadership team, you will provide strategic and tactical leadership in the development and execution of programs relating to the caretaking and maintenance of campus buildings.  You will also ensure effective and efficient operations by planning, evaluating and designing work processes and workflows for a range of diverse job activities, with an emphasis on continuous improvement and increasing consistency and quality.

Education:
-   University Degree in a relevant Engineering or Business discipline
-   Industrial or Process Engineering degree preferred
-   P.Eng certification preferred

Experience:
-   Greater than 8 years' experience leading, managing and motivating staff
-   Experience with budget and expenditure management
-   Experience in a Higher Education and Unionized work environment preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-   Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of applicable governmental legislations, including Occupational Health and Safety Act, Building and Fire Codes
-   Ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to business problems, while encouraging others to identify improvements
-   Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including skills in developing people, coaching and mentoring, setting objectives and measuring performance
-   Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization
-   Positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
-   Solid understanding of key financial principles coupled with experience managing and developing budgets
-   Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to coach team members as well as support clients
-   Results oriented with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change
-   Proven ability and natural inclination to build positive and strong relationships at all levels of the organization
-   Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop shared vision to lead employees to excellence
-   Planning and organizational skills with a dedication to quality standards relative to operational improvement, strategic planning and business growth
-   Demonstrated ability to implement a continuous improvement approach to developing and deploying best practices, policies and procedures
