Compensation Structure: Based on the salary band for this role, external candidates can expect to be offered a starting salary in the range of $55,000 - $58,000 ($30 - $31 per hour). When determining the starting wage, we consider the market, candidate experience, as well as internal equity. Additionally, United Way also offers:

Position Description 

The Community Impact Specialist is United Way’s primary link to funded agencies, community partners and networks. The Community Impact Specialist manages projects and activities that reduce and/or prevent poverty including grant funding, advocacy, government relations and public policy.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Possess
  • University degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in public policy, community development or related field  
  • Minimum three years’ experience in community development, public policy, government relations or related field 
  • Experience monitoring public policy and data trends, providing analysis and relating results to organizational goals  
  • Expertise and experience in the development and delivery of programs, services and strategies that address and/or prevent poverty and mental health 
  • Knowledge of the social services sector in London, Middlesex County, St. Thomas, and Elgin County, and understanding of current strategies in place to address local social challenges 
  • Experience in measurement and evaluation of program outcomes  
  • Proven organizational skills, including ability to take initiative, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines under pressure, and carry projects to completion with minimum supervision 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manager relationships with volunteers and partner organizations 
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with diverse populations and multiple stakeholders 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to flex work schedule to attend meetings and events, which at times occur before or after regular office hours
  • Requires possession of a valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle with a minimum of $1,000,000 insurance coverage
Primary Responsibilities
  • Manage grants with assigned agencies, programs and projects, including monitoring, evaluating and assessing applications, outcome measurement and reports 
  • Work with staff and volunteers to implement funding review process 
  • Develop annual public policy agenda
  • Track advocacy and government relations work
  • Monitor municipal, provincial and federal public policy and provides analysis as needed 
  • Develop policy briefs and submissions as needed
  • Provide speaking notes and briefing notes to CEO as organizational spokesperson
  • Work with United Ways and other partners on collaborative local and provincial advocacy 
  • Lead local activities related to United Way Centraide Canada’s federal advocacy work
  • Build strong relationships with funded agencies, community partners and volunteers
  • Provide ongoing communication and support to assigned funded agencies and partners 
  • Recruit, trains and supports volunteers as needed
  • Represent UWEM at community planning tables and networks 
  • Convene community partners
  • Participate in community initiatives involving multiple stakeholders 
  • Ensure the participation of people with lived experience in the work of United Way and its partners
  • Support all United Way business units to strengthen organizational capacity to achieve greater community impact 
  • Provide content and information related to community impact work for donor and public communication 
  • Assist with the development of donor engagement activities including advocacy activities, impact experiences, speaker’s bureau and corporate volunteering
  • Perform other duties as needed to ensure the safe and effective operations of the organization
