Job Description
The Southwestern Ontario Angel Group (SWO Angels) is a members-only, non-profit organization comprised of accredited investors seeking investment opportunities in promising, early-stage businesses.
We are part of the Equation Angels alliance in Southwestern Ontario.
Our chapter was started over 10 years ago by a very respected local founder and corporate leader.
The federal governement helps chapters like ours organize. Investment funds are private moneys from our members.
JOB PROFILE
The Chapter Director, in coordination with the team of Equation Angels and with the assistance of local members and volunteers, will design and direct strategies and operations that support and enhance organizational goals in our local constituent communities:
- Growing, retaining and engaging local membership.
- Ensuring an awesome deal flow of investment opportunities for Equation members.
- Securing the necessary sponsorship and other revenue to ensure the financial health of local operations.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the team of Equation Angels and with the assistance of local members and volunteers to achieve established key performance indicators (KPIs) in the following:
Membership
In coordination with Equation, drive interest in angel investing and incentives to encourage membership.
On a local level develop and manage a process to:
- Identify, nurture and convert area investors and potential investors to membership.
- Optimize member retention and engagement, in partnership with existing members and Equation staff.
- Engage members with opportunities to contribute to the local and Equation mission.
Deal Flow
Actively source awesome deal flow of investment opportunities by designing, implementing, and maintaining strong connections to all innovation centres and investment sources in the region.
Coordinate deal flow and selection process within the Equation selection structure.
Position Equation capital as a vital and valid role in the ecosystem’s economic development.
Empower local membership as ambassadors to actively source deals.
Funding & Financial Management
In coordination with Equation, develop and maintain a financial model that leads to self-sufficient sustainability, through:
Optimizing sponsorship funding locally and for Equation.
Uncovering alternative funding sources and opportunities.
Maintaining necessary relationships with government funding sources to ensure vital and sustainable government funding until Equation is self-sufficient.
Manage the financial affairs of the local chapter to ensure financial viability, and ensure Equation receives accurate and timely financial & activity reports.
Leadership
Embody and nurture an entrepreneurial drive to grow and expand your local region.
Consistent outreach to the local community to ensure Equation is top of mind for capital with deal-flow prospects.
Engage in providing angel investor educational content on an as needed basis.
Prepare reports, manage schedule and organize regular meetings with the local advisory committee.
Administration
Innovate, plan and manage local events, in collaboration with Equation team and local event coordinator, to facilitate optimal engagement and investments for members both virtually and in-person as timing allows.
Maintain a data management system to report on KPIs of local activities as directed by the Equation team.
Assist the Equation team with local data and information needed to complete government reports.
REQUIREMENTS
Persuasive leadership with humility that will be recognized, respected, and consulted within the community.
Entrepreneurial drive embodying the spirit of a start-up.
Networking and interpersonal skills to engage and increase membership, drive quality deal flow and grow sponsorship.
Well acquainted with the innovation investment journey.
Effective communication, administrative, and sales skills will be an asset in this role.
Business, technology or engineering degree or equivalent.
