The Human Resources (HR) Intern, under the direction of the Director, Human Resources, is primarily responsible for providing administrative support to the HR department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the full cycle recruitment process, including postings, screening, coordinating interviews, reference checks, new hire administration and facilitation of orientation sessions
- Perform reception back-up duties
- Assist with research and compliance initiatives regarding HR issues and policy review
- Organize, maintain, and coordinate office records and files
- Eliminate unnecessary or outdated materials, destroying them or transferring them to inactive storage according to file maintenance/legal guidelines
- Develop and/or update and track job descriptions
- Assemble new hire orientation packages
- Maintain training records
- Verify the accuracy of invoices for temporary labor
- Assist with applications for short term disability and track employees on benefit
- Prepare Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents
- Maintain spreadsheets and create analytics
- Other duties as assigned including support of other departments as required
Key qualifications
Experience and Education (diploma, degree, or professional designation):
- Working towards a post-secondary degree or diploma in the field of Human Resources
- Proven ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and common sense regarding employee information
- Strong customer service orientation
- 1 year of work experience in an office setting preferred
- Excellent written and verbal skills and comprehension
- Highly organized
- High degree of flexibility and adaptableness
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently
- Strong computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email required
- Excellent time management skills
