Cargill is a large and reputable food company with operations around the world.  Cargill Value Added Protein operates a chicken processing plant in London, Ontario and a hatchery in Jarvis, Ontario.  The processing plant employs approximately 900 employees and processes 85,000 chickens each day.  The hatchery has approximately 70 employees and, on average, produces 150,000 chicks per day.  Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates ground beef processing facilities in Brampton, Ontario and Spruce Grove,
Alberta employing approximately 130 employees.

Position Overview:
As the Operations Supervisor based out of our hatchery in Jarvis, ON, you will be responsible for the daily supervision, engagement and safety of the operations stakeholders in three departments.  Your main accountabilities include the direction of the operations team to accomplish daily production goals, in an engaging manner, with an emphasis on people safety and food safety.  

Principal Accountabilities:
50% - Direct Supervision – Oversee the day to day operations of the production team. Ensure the teams are adequately scheduled to complete the work. Meet on a regular basis to convey instructions and information. Outline expectations and administers discipline as necessary. Ensure consistency in application of corporate Human Resources programs, policies, rules and regulations.   

15% - Stakeholder, engagement and development – Assist in the recruitment, selection and training of departmental stakeholders.  Coach, mentor and lead each department with employee relations issues, performance management, career development and building engaged teams. 

15% - Safety – Maintain total awareness of, and ensures compliance with, Occupational Health & Safety Act and Company Health & Safety policies, in addition to our corporate policies. Ensure all accidents and incidents are investigated and corrective actions / preventative measures are implemented. Participate in the joint health and safety committee.  Create an environment where stakeholders work toward the culture where zero injuries are possible.

10% - Quality & HACCP – Oversee all aspects of the Sanitation process regarding the general Hatchery conditions and the Embrex machine. Ensure all HACCP paperwork is completed in a correct and timely manner within all critical limits and that all monitoring steps within these related departments are completed. Perform periodic Supervisor verifications and monitoring steps as outlined in the FSEP plan. 

10% - Administration – Generates documents, reports and correspondence. Ensures documents are accurate and filed or circulated in a timely manner. Schedules and manages staff meetings and employee training sessions. Ensure all computer records are maintained with appropriate reports generated.

Required:
  • Post-secondary diploma of related field
  • 1 or more years of supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead a team in an industrial setting, preferably within food manufacturing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated coaching, leadership and team-building skills
  • Able to adapt to work in various work conditions (noise, odours, dust, fumes, wet/damp, chemicals)
  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
Preferred:
  • Degree, diploma, or certification in Business, Management or Safety
  • Experience working in live animal production
  • Knowledge of HACCP, WHIMS or other chemical safety training
