Responsibilities
This individual is responsible for managing a particular Group’s Drivers and/or Owner Operators to ensure a positive contribution to the achievement of Operational goals. (Revenue per Mile, Fleet Utilization, etc)
The promotion of positive driver relations and superior customer service is a key factor in the success of this function.
Maintaining positive cross-functional relationships is an ongoing responsibility.
Cover for other dispatchers as required.
Define Role Tasks
- Dispatches equipment and drivers
- Ensures entry of drivers’ hours and ensures compliance with Company and legislative “Hours of Service Regulations”.
- Maintains information on the availability and location of drivers to ensure they are being dispatched for optimal utilization.
- Inputs accurate and timely data entry in all operating systems as required
- Handle driver concerns to maintain positive relationships & harmony within the driver work force.
- Deals with customers
- Works together with colleagues to ensure a high level of teamwork and co-operation.
- Ensures Drivers and/or Owner Operators are given complete load information (i.e. trip #, freight bill #, appointment times, special instructions, load requirements, etc.)
- Reports all Service Failures to Office Manager
- Saturday and weekend operations coverage as required
- Other duties as required

As a member of a high functioning team, works cooperatively with fellow fleet managers to ensure ongoing department success.
Decision-making Scope
Makes decision relating to the dispatch of equipment and drivers, as well as freight rates, within established parameters
Adheres to department and company policies and procedures
Cross-functional Relationships and Authorities
Maintains positive relationships with all departments and provides recruiting and retention support across the organization.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years dispatch and industry experience.
- Good knowledge of North American geography combined with strong math skills.
- Creative capabilities combined with good problem-solving, listening and communication skills.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment
