Job Description
The Compensation and Benefits Manager, is responsible for the compensation, benefits and pension programs. Through the Compensation and Benefits team, this position ensures a high level of systems, records, and process integrity and commitment to customer service excellence. The Compensation and Benefits Manager models the Shared Values and plays a key role in representing the face of Human Relations to all customers.
Key Role and Responsibilities
Management of retirement plans – this position is the pension expert and is responsible for the oversight of Canada. People Management, Management of disability and benefit plans, and HR systems oversight are additional responsibilities held in this position.
Experience
5 - 7 years’ experience in leading a team in managing HR systems, and pension, benefits and compensation programs
Must have proven experience in effective governance and management of defined benefit and defined contribution plans
Experience with SAP HR and payroll considered an asset.
Business Expertise
Requires basic knowledge of the entire organization and how positions relate to one another to ensure equitable programs are in place. Must keep knowledge up to date regarding legal requirements and trends in pension, compensation and benefits. Understand trends in market data and apply them appropriately when making recommendations
Interaction and Interpersonal Skills
Position interacts at all levels of the organization to manage programs. Must be able to explain complex concepts to various audiences and levels of the organization. Creates an open, inviting atmosphere to be able to manage difficult conversations with compassion and tact. Works with multiple external providers and ensures the providers are acting appropriately on company’s behalf.
Problem Solving
Apply policy and procedures appropriately and fairly when dealing with unique employee situations; must be able to anticipate consequences of decisions for all employees and the business. Issues will arise that are extremely personal and sensitive, and where a solution is required quickly.
Other Skills & Abilities
Candidate must have strong technical and communication skills.
Must be strongly skilled in building and maintaining relationships with all levels internally and with external providers.
Must possess strong technical skills including advanced Excel and previous experience with SAP HR.
