Cargill is a large and reputable food company with operations around the world.  Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates a chicken processing plant in London, Ontario and a hatchery in Jarvis, Ontario.  The processing plant employs approximately 900 employees and processes 85,000 chickens each day.  The hatchery has approximately 70 employees and, on average, produces 150,000 chicks per day.  Cargill Value Added Meats - Foodservice operates ground beef processing facilities in Brampton, Ontario and Spruce Grove, Alberta employing approximately 130 employees.
 
As the Quality Assurance Manager for the London, ON location, you will be responsible for the planning, development and maintenance of all Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) systems in a location with High FSQR Complexity and Risk, including: developing and implementing FSQR policies, continuous improvement of FSQR processes and systems, shaping the location’s food safety culture and leading talent management practices. You will be a key member of the location leadership team.
 
Principal Accountabilities:
 
30% - Ensure compliance of regulations/policies – ultimate accountability for all FSQR compliance (inclusive of the location’s animal welfare and ISO 17025 Accredited Microbiology Lab programs; analyze, review, interpret FSQR policies, regulations; implement predefined customer and supplier standards, monitor regulatory activities; ensure plant compliance; act as liaison with regulatory authorities at local level
 
20% - Perform prevention activities and issue resolution – interface with customer as assigned, manage FSQR audits, manage ISO 17025 Microbiology Audits, respond to customer questions/complaints, proactively identify risks, take action to prevent FSQR issues across location
 
20% - Develop, implement and assess process/systems – plans and directs all FSQR programs and management of change, implements product specification systems, drives continuous improvement, provides input to location leaders related to base/non-base capital needs to maintain food safety leadership position.  For Laboratory’s ISO 17025 program, you will have the role of the Quality Manager
 
15% - Shape food safety, quality and regulatory culture/reputation - interface with manager/directors within the Business and represent FSQR as part of location management team, act as liaison between customer and operations to ensure standard/expectations are met, build and develop effective engaged FSQR workforce, lead implementation of the Business FSQR strategy/tactical plans
 
15% - People/resource/budget management – lead talent management of employees in FSQR organization for a facility with large number of FSQR resources; accountable for selection, training, development performance management and engagement for a large number of direct/indirect reports; develop/implement short range (tactical) FSQR plans in alignment with the Business and local plans; actively participates in development of FSQR initiatives; set accurate and challenging budgets, key member of location leadership team; maintain and monitor the departmental safety program
 
Qualifications:
 
Required:
  •  Post-secondary degree in Animal Science, Food Science, Microbiology, Biological Sciences or related science field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Technical Services i.e. Quality, Food, Safety, Auditing etc.
  • 3 years supervisory experience preferably in the food industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Quality Management systems and CFIA’s FSEP program
  • Practical knowledge of food plant manufacturing
  • Ability to deliver training and learning solutions that engage learners and provides desired outcomes
  • Knowledge of Food Laws & Regulations
  • Business Acumen and project management
  • Risk Assessment Skills - Conducts and communicates the results of a scientific evaluation of the known or potential adverse health effects resulting from human or animal exposure to food borne hazards
  • Computer literacy with understanding on MS office ((MS Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada
 
Preferred:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Technical Services, i.e., Quality, Food Safety, Auditing, etc. experience in Poultry processing facility
  • Intermediate knowledge of Quality Management systems (FSSC 22000 and ISO 17025); CFIA’s FSEP program and Poultry MPIP
  • Advanced food plant manufacturing knowledge; demonstrates practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and operations
  • Basic knowledge of poultry animal welfare practices
  • Knowledge of Customer Specifications Management
