Continuing Professional Development (CPD) develops and provides accredited professional development workshops for faculty, staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars, as well as continuing medical education programs for practicing physicians and allied health professionals in South Western Ontario and nation-wide. CPD supports programs and departments in the assessment of educational needs, and in the design, development, and accreditation of educational programs to meet identified educational gaps.

 

CPD, one of nine programs within the Education Portfolio in the Dean’s Office, will embrace CBME and support its implementation and incorporation into postgraduate and undergraduate medical education in collaboration with the school’s clinical departments via the establishment of central resources to implement CBME.

 

The Simulation & Technology-Enhanced Learning Lead is primarily responsible for coordinating the use of simulation and technology-enhanced learning across Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry in the implementation of Competency Based Medical Education (CBME). CPD will collaborate with Program Directors, administrators and identified faculty to support the transition to CBME by facilitating the adoption and effective selection and use of simulation and technology-enhanced learning and the sharing of best practices.

 

Qualifications

Education:
- Master’s degree in business administration, health sciences, information systems/data management or education

- Additional specialization(s) in project management, facilitation, leadership, finance, change management, or organizational effectiveness is preferred

 

Experience:

- 5 years’ experience working in a business services capacity in the health-care sector

- 5 years’ experience in project management, scheduling of resources, training and purchasing

- 5 years’ experience working within a complex medical education environment in various leadership roles requiring consultation and strategy development is preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Strong facilitation skills with an ability to influence, motivate and inspire

- Experience preparing budgets as well as proposals requiring financial justification using calculations such as return on investment

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization

- Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills including experience formulating and executing action plans, and an ability to work well in an environment with some ambiguity and uncertainty

- Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple and diverse tasks

- Proven ability to take initiative and in-depth knowledge of how to champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation

- Self-driven, independent thinker who is highly motivated and possesses an intrinsic passion for quality

- Demonstrated collaboration skills including building and maintaining lasting relationships with key internal faculty and external partners

- Ability to handle diverse situations, multiple and complex projects and rapidly changing priorities

- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office; Experience working with surveys, data collection and database management using Microsoft Access or similar program

- Access to own vehicle and driver’s licence are required

- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of medical and technological developments

- Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development

- Experience with or knowledge of Western's policies, as well as research and financial environments would be preferred
