The Director, Software Development is responsible for the overall strategic and functional leadership and process development of the development department. and adherence, staff allocations, personnel management, training as well as key performance metrics, for Software Development Team.  The Director, Software Development acts as a key member of the leadership team.

Core Job Duties and Responsibilities:
•    Provide the development and adherence of the overall Software Development Life Cycle
•    Contribute to continuous improvement and excellence of standards and practices within the engineering department 
•    Recommend improvements of code quality by driving improvements in unit test and code reviews
•    Help define departmental objectives and metrics
•    Technological visionary to ensure our technology roadmap is future safe
•    Mentor and leader for Development Managers and Technical Leads
•    Manage offshore resourcing needs and planning and provides improvements to usage and efficacy
•    Key decision maker in the development tool selection and usage, including code review tools, test frameworks and build tools
•    Ensure that all projects are adequately resourced
•    Forecasts future resource needs and maintain a current staff and hiring plan
•    Development and maintenance of strategic department growth plan
•    Lead the design, development, implementation and maintenance of a skills inventory
•    Lead the development managers in creating staff growth plans
•    Lead the career development process, including performance reviews
•    Attends and participates in public speaking and networking events in support of corporate recruitment and  branding initiatives
•    Staff administrative management functions such as timesheet reporting, vacation, expense reports, etc.

Education, Experience and Competencies:
•    Post-secondary education in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
•    10+ years direct experience in software development environment and minimum 8 years in a leadership role
•    Excellent understanding of software testing methodologies and software development lifecycle
•    Experience implementing continuous integration and test environments
•    Ability to set and manage priorities judiciously
•    Strong communication skills
•    Solid understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
•    Exceptionally self-motivated, directed, and detail-oriented
•    Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities
•    Solid understanding of assessing and designing internal controls in an enterprise-level environment
•    Ability to manage and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
