The Manager, Library Acquisitions is accountable for the leadership and management of the Acquisitions and the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Departments and the staff in these departments. The incumbent ensures that Western's procurement, financial and auditing processes are adhered to and provides leadership for a wide range of financial and budget related accountabilities including budget analysis and vendor assessments. The Manager is responsible for the management and decision-making related to procurement software for acquisitions including vendor software that must be integrated into existing or re-engineered processes. The incumbent manages the day-to-day relationships with vendors and suppliers, negotiating prices, resolving problems and maintaining good vendor relations.
 
The incumbent manages the ILL Department to ensure the efficient and customer-centered management of Western Libraries Interlibrary Loan service while supporting the research, scholarship and teaching needs of the Western community.  The Manager oversees the work and resources of the ILL Department including planning, evaluating, organizing, allocating and prioritizing to meet the goals of the Department and Western Libraries. The incumbent supervises a total of fifteen staff members plus up to two student casual assistants while overseeing work expectations as well as fostering teamwork and ensuring workflow improvement as required.
 
Qualifications
Education:
-   University degree in a Business or Financial related field
-   Enrollment in a professional accounting program
-   Certified accounting designation is preferred
 
Experience:
-   5 years' professional experience including demonstrated expertise in financial, accounting processes, vendor relations and procurement
-   2 years' supervisory leadership, administrative and management skills with a track record of building and leading a team
-   Previous experience in an academic library setting and knowledge of acquisitions is preferred
 
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
-   Strong organizational and management skills
-   Demonstrated strong fiscal management, financial and quantitative analysis skills
-   Demonstrated attention to detail with the ability to complete detailed analytics and reports
-   Superior judgment, analytical and problem solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities
-   Familiarity with acquisitions processes in a library setting
-   Project Management skills
-   Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Office with advanced skills in Access and Excel
-   Strong business acumen and negotiation skills are crucial
-   Demonstrated excellent communication skills - both written and verbal with the ability to respond diplomatically to inquiries from staff, faculty, patrons and members of the general public
-   Proven ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and external agencies
-   Strong team player who enjoys learning and contributing to team goals
-   Collaborative leadership and team building skills
-   Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment
-   Familiarity with Integrated Library systems and PeopleSoft is preferred
