Job Description


Responsibilities

Responsible for the efficient and effective operation of London LTL Terminal.

Working co-operatively with other department Managers and Terminal Managers, to assist in managing the freight pick-up, delivery function and Equipment Maintenance to ensure a positive contribution to the achievement of company goals.

Responsible to work closely with the driving team to help the company meet truck and trailer utilization, revenue, margin and service level goals.

Promotes a motivating environment, through the application of team-building practices, including regular performance appraisal, feedback and coaching of his/her direct reports.

In conjunction and cooperation with other staff and managers, analyzes new sales opportunities for margin requirements and operational issues.

Participates in the sales quotation process as required by the sales team and to examine areas of margin improvement. 

This function has an important role working with the Manager, Safety & Compliance to promote positive driver and owner/operator relations, to minimize driver turnover.

Maintains positive cross-functional relationships.

Define Role Tasks 

  • Ensures a co-operative environment with consistent communication and flow of information between other terminals, Sales and other departments regarding freight related issues.
  • Responsible for delivering of equipment for any necessary repairs & adversely responsible for returning it to the yard.
  • Responsible for maintaining the flow of paperwork to and from the corporate office in a timely manner
  • Accountable for maintaining driving staff numbers adequately to cover necessary runs or be available themselves to cover if required
  • Weekend coverage required.
  • This role would be responsible for ordering and maintaining all office supplies from head office, as well as maintaining stock on all necessary company forms
  • Ensure that all company forms, certificates and memos are posted and current dated
  • Terminal and office to be kept clean & organized at all times
  • Primary contact for all operational driver related issues and responsible to be a liaison between Dispatch and the driver’s to help maintain a high level of service.
  • Responsible for maximizing equipment and asset utilization
  • Monitors and maintains a high level of accuracy in data entry and control of system input
  • Ensures reporting is timely and accurate for margin analysis etc.
  • Ensures fair and consistent application of and adherence to company policies.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing to meet goals, within approved budget.
  • In conjunction with the VP Operations, assists in the creation and preparation of departmental projects, plans and budgets.
  • Implements approved plans to achieve defined operating goals, while ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Supports others in achievement of goals.

Relationships with Peers

Maintains a high level of open communication regarding Operations needs and expectations with colleagues within the company.

Maintains awareness of interdepartmental goals and co-operates with department heads to help ensure the successful achievement of the Strategic Objectives.

Decision Making Scope

Assists in developing and adheres to departmental budget once approved.

Adheres to company policy.

Actively participates in departmental staffing decisions.

Cross-functional Relationships and Authorities

Maintains positive relationships with all departments and provides recruiting and retention support across the organization.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • College diploma in business administration or equivalent.
  • Ten (10) years industry experience with 3 to 5 years in operations/dispatch.
  • Good organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good knowledge of Doug Coleman Trucking Ltd service areas, geography.
  • Strong math skills.
