Job Description

Purpose of Position

 

Responsible for the design of lamp drivers (electronic ballasts) for UV lamps

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of lamp drivers (electronic ballasts) for ultraviolet lamps, working under the supervision of a senior design specialist

  • Power circuit design: analysis, selection and application of conversion topologies and control circuits
  • Design and specification of magnetic devices

  • Conduct and support laboratory prototyping and testing of lamp drivers

  • Design and develop products according to safety agency and EMC requirements

  • Provide assistance and input to mechanical packaging and design for lamp drivers

  • Conduct and support thermal design, analysis and testing

  • Complete reliability predictions for drivers

  • Create and maintain documentation including schematic, bills of materials, drawings to support prototyping and volume manufacturing

  • Document development work including progress reports, test reports

  • Support full development cycle from concept through volume manufacturing

  • Support related electrical/electronic design work

 

Background and Skill

  • BSEE/MSEE or equivalent education + experience

  • Experience (5+ years) in power electronics (AC/DC power supply and/or electronic ballast) component-level design

  • Solid understanding of AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion topologies and control methods from <10W to >1KW

  • Skilled at selection and application of magnetic devices

  • Experience with design of custom magnetics preferred

  • Knowledge of design for safety and EMC requirements

  • Experienced in PC based CAD: schematic capture and printed circuit board design

  • Proficient with personal computer (PC) applications including MS office

  • Knowledge in reliability prediction and testing of power electronics

  • Experience with application of micro-controllers and digital controls in power electronics

  • Effective written and verbal communications skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in small teams
