Job Description

Our client, an automotive parts manufacturer, is recruiting for a Process Engineer to join their team.  Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the incumbent is responsible for process development, continuous improvement and process improvement efforts to deliver quality and efficiency. A summary of responsibilities is listed below:
 
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in process development efforts through cross-functional teams to develop optimal cell layout, standardized cycle times, process flow, plant layout(s), equipment utilization and efficiency while adhering to safety, quality, productivity protocols and budgets. Develop, optimize, document, update process work instructions and set-up procedures as required. Assist with updating tooling specifications and best practices for plant processes. Develop, document and employ process troubleshooting guidelines. Assist production with die casting process on any production or technical issues.
  • Ensure products meet quoted cycle time, material usage, scrap rate and operator requirements. Coordinate, PFMEA, PSHSR, PPAP, Run at Rate runs with plant personnel to ensure a capable product/process. Assist production staff as process expert by utilizing troubleshooting, diagnosis, debugging and other technical skills to keep production processes running at peak efficiency/performance.
  • Review new and existing product design to ensure optimal manufacturability, adherence to tolerance guidelines, functionality, tool design, machine design, cell layout, safety and ergonomic concerns.
  • Assist with training operators, supervisors and maintenance personnel to run new processes and equipment.
  • Assist plant engineering technicians in execution of engineering tasks.
  • Participate in the RFQ process as required to determining optimum processes, tooling, material requirements, and costs both capital and tooling for customer quotes.
  • Demonstrate compliance to department TS16949 procedures.
  • Work on Continuous Improvement Projects as identified or needed. Leads Engineering efforts to resolve/improve process opportunities. Identify and resolve process improvements leading to better cycle times, reduced scrap, improved process capability (i.e. Cpk, Ppk), and increased throughput. Evaluate and take actions needed to meet or exceed plant targets set for scrap, cycle time, through put and quality.
  • Participate in and perform corrective action implementation and root cause analysis on assigned customer complaints or internal failures as assigned.
  • Perform safety analysis and implementation as assigned.
  • Apply lean engineering principles (e.g. value stream mapping, SMED, standardized work methods, etc.) to improve assigned processes.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors’ Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
  • A Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience within  automotive manufacturing  environment or equivalent
  • Microsoft Office Professional with advanced Excel skills.
  • Good presentation and customer service skills.
  • Time/priority management skills to meet or exceed targets for launch activities and managing multiple projects.
  • Problem solving and analysis.
  • Project management to be on time and within budget.
  • Sound Health, Safety and Environmental knowledge.
  • Continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Strong team ethic.
