Great Lakes Copper is a fully integrated copper tube mill producing a broad assortment of high quality products, with particular strength in the large OD copper tube market, selling in both Canada and the States. ELECTRICAL CONTROLS ENGINEER

ELECTRICAL CONTROLS ENGINEER
As an Electrical Controls Engineer at Great Lakes Copper, you will participate and lead in the designing, planning and preparation of electrical systems. Your background, skills, and ideas will help the Mill evolve. You’ll be part of a proud team and play a role in maintaining our solid reputation.
As a valued member of the team you will:
- Develop and implement solutions to achieve greatest productivity, relating to production and quality assurance.
- Manage and develop electrical and control systems with circuits ranging from high voltage AC to low voltage DC.
- Provide technical expertise; upgrade and update electrical equipment drawings and control program files.
- Investigate and develop new technologies; continually improving machine up time and operability.
- Oversee and implement programming changes.
- Work with Purchasing to properly implement new stock and remove obsolete stock items.
- Review technical work, including blueprints and electrical work; ensuring our systems meet the immediate and longer term needs of the plant.
- Ensure project work is appropriately planned for, then completed on time and within budget.
- Control panel documentation / labelling and tracking of changes.
- Work collaboratively closely with Operations, Maintenance, IT and Engineering staff.
- Rewrite existing controls specifications to usable format for vendor quotations.
Requirements:

- Successful completion of either a 3 year Electrical Technician Diploma or a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
- At least 8 years of related experience including a background in machine controls, design and programming.
- Familiarity with SLC500, PLC5, Micro logics, Control Logics – Studio 5000, Power Flex and VFD drives
- Strong Mechanical and Electrical knowledge an asset
- Proven attention to detail and project management experience
- Experience with HMI (Human Machine Interface)
- Ability physically to maneuver around workstations and climb stairs when needed.
- Industrial Electrical Apprenticeship (OTAB#442) OR skills trades license as an Industrial Millwright / Industrial Electrician would be an asset, but is not required.
- The ability to travel, periodically, to our warehouse in St. Thomas.
