Job Description

Purpose of Position

Responsible to lead the complete embedded hardware design process and life cycle of distributed industrial control and monitoring hardware.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, development, modification and analysis of distributed electronic hardware, equipment  and systems
  • Develop and continuously improve hardware development processes.
  • Champion new ideas and processes within the organization
  • Recommend design approaches to meet requirements in new and existing products
  • Evaluate designs for safety and compliance with certifications like UL, CSA, CE for industrial automation
  • Work with other engineers, managers, marketing, production control, quality and manufacturing groups to develop requirements, specifications and test plans
  • Work with procurement and suppliers in building prototype and production circuit boards
  • Specify and perform verification, testing and debugging of electronic subsystems
  • Coordinate with other engineers in design, development, verification and integration of the company products
  • Diagnose complex problems/faults in existing systems and recommend design changes to improve performance
  • Manage lifecycle of existing and future designs to ensure obsolescence risks are minimized and common designs are utilized
  • Ensure technology solutions are made available that meet new and emerging market requirements
  • Create and maintain documentation including schematic, bills of materials, drawings to support prototyping and volume manufacturing
  • Share expertise and experience with others, both in mentoring junior associates and in sharing knowledge with other teams and with other Trojan operating companies.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

 

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical or Electronics Engineering with 10+ years of experience in Electronics and Embedded Systems hardware design, including (but not limited to) experience in the following technology areas
    • Designs involving microcontrollers and FPGAs
    • Communication interfaces including RS-485, Ethernet, I2C, SPI
    • Design for Manufacturability
    • Design for Testability
    • Design for UL, CSA or CE compliance
    • Analog and digital PCB design
    • Linear and switching power supply design
    • ADC/DAC system design
    • Signal conditioning, passive and active filter design
  • You have advanced PCB and system-level troubleshooting experience
  • You have excellent technical documentation skills (including experience creating Design Specifications, Block Diagrams and Test Plans)
  • You possess effective written and verbal communications skills
  • You are able to successfully interface with internal and external customers, appreciate their challenges and maintain their respect.
