Duties and Responsibilities
 
 
  • Plans and implements safety and procedures in compliance with local, provincial and federal Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations, ensures compliance with changes to the Act
  • Plans and implements programs to train managers and associates in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials including WHMIS
  • Prepares studies and analyses industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies
  • Participates, inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or prevent access to hazardous conditions
  • Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies (WSIB, MOL)
  • Maintains safety files and records
  • Member ISO 14001 Committee to ensure compliance
  • MSDS — review MSDS for appropriate control programs (ie: PPE, Train Coordinators on handling procedures)
  • Organize and ensure workplace inspections are complete for every area of the plant on regular basis
  • Present safety information sessions at team meetings and production meetings on a regular basis
 
Qualifications:
 
 
  • Diploma/Degree from College or University or one to two years of relevant experience or a combination of both
  • WHMIS and First Aid Certification
  • Experience using a HRIS, Microsoft Office and the Internet
  • Excellent language, math and reasoning skills required  
  • Strong trouble shooting skills
  • Physical requirements of the job include standing, walking, occasional sitting, kneeling, crouching, reaching/lifting/moving up to 10lbs
  • Must have CSA approved safety shoes/boots
