BUILDING INSPECTOR/BY-LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
The Municipality of Central Elgin is a progressive, growing urban and rural municipality located on the shores of Lake Erie in the heart of Southwestern Ontario.  The Municipality is home to 12,800 living in both an urban and rural environments.  Currently, the municipality is seeking a progressive, eager, and self motivated individual to be part of the Central Elgin team.
Under the supervision of the Chief Building Official you will perform inspections, enforcement and advisory services in accordance with the Building Code Act, Municipal by-laws and other related legislation.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
  • Ensure building permit requests are complete and review for compliance of the Ontario Building Code and with other applicable laws
  • Perform plan examination to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code. Review engineering, architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural plans, for all types of buildings within the scope of the Ontario Building Code.
  • Perform site inspections to ensure compliance with the Building Code Act, Municipal by-laws and other related legislation for construction
  • Give verbal/written approvals for various stages of construction as completed or refer violations to the Chief Building Official for enforcement.
  • Perform site inspections to ensure compliance with municipal by-laws relating to zoning, parking, lot maintenance, etc.
  • Liaison with residents to provide by-law compliance determination and resolve disputes or grievances.
  • Provide information to the public with respect to Municipal by-laws, the Ontario Building Code, permit application process, inspections, fees and charges.
Ideally you would have the following qualifications:
  • College Diploma in Civil Engineering/Architectural or Construction Technician or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of Provincial Bill 124 exams: Legal/process for the Chief Building Official, House, Plumbing-House, HVAC-House, On-Site Sewage systems, Structural, Large and Complex buildings                                       
  • Minimum of three years related experience
  • Valid Ontario Drivers Licence
 
The Salary range for this position is $30.57/hr-35.75/hr -40 hours/week (under review)
