Job Description
Position: SQL Server/Database Programmer/IT Support
Re: Industry Canada Youth Internship Program Grant
- Career Focus position: 393.5 hours
- End date of program: March 31, 2016
Eligibility Requirements
- Youth must be between 15-30 years old at time of start of their internship.
- Youth must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Youth must be unrelated to the IHO Administrator.
- Youth must not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while participating in a CF project.
- Youth must be a post-secondary graduate or have completed at least one post-secondary course.
- Positions must be filled by Youth Interns who have not previously received funding from an OLA administered grant process.
- Rate of pay is $14/hour
Reports To: Programs Director
Summary: The Intern is responsible for supporting all IT related functions as directed by the IT Coordinator.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Become familiar with Nokee Kwe’s policies and procedures, confidentiality practices, and related forms
- Demonstrate a sensitivity towards and understanding of diverse populations, including aboriginal peoples, individuals with disabilities, newcomers, and youth
- Strong background in database design in Microsoft SQL Server
- Ability to create, set up and administer a Microsoft SQL Server
- Perform gap analysis of the database and administer solutions including modification or redesign of the database as required by the IT Coordinator
- Write computer programs and update and repair existing programs
- Assist with process, data and object modeling
- Contribute to systems architecture analysis, design, development, and enhancement
- Create, develop, implement and evaluate new features and option to improve efficiency and facilitate the collection of quality indicators
- Perform routine maintenance and software upgrades
- Assist with any IT challenges by Nokee Kwe staff and/or clients
- Post-Secondary completion and/or working toward a Degree or Diploma in Computer /Related Studies
- Strong student experience in SQL Server troubleshooting, efficiency, performance, coding issues
- Ability to function independently, yet collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written
Time Commitment:
The time commitment is based on 393.5 hours from the start date to March 31st 2016. Nokee Kwe is open from Monday – Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and Friday, 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. A one hour lunch is provided for a complete 8 hour shift.
