EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY-
COMMUNITY INTEGRATION WORKER

 

LUSO Community Services is a provider of community social services with a holistic approach to community development. We provide programs and services in the London community for children, youth, families and seniors of culturally diverse and ethnic backgrounds.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

REPORTS TO: The Community Integration Worker will report to the Executive Director of the agency and work closely with other LUSO staff members responsible to deliver Settlement services for newcomers. The successful candidate must be able to start in July.

TYPE: Contract position, 15-18 hours per week, until March 31, 2018. Evenings and some weekends will be required.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Integration Worker will have three key areas of responsibility.

  • Plan and deliver group activities to support mother-daughter workshops on topics that address issues of parenting, domestic violence, sexual violence, financial literacy, community engagement, volunteerism and health and wellness.
  • Responsible to plan, coordinate and implement community activities and events for newcomer families in Northeast London to help support with their integration process. In particular Syrian women and their daughters
  • Work closely with other LUSO staff to provide support to programs that have high Syrian families accessing them

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Planning the various aspects to deliver the workshops/sessions including developing content, confirming speakers, booking space, registration process, promotional materials etc.
  • Conduct outreach to promote the project and recruit Syrian families in the community to participate
  • Implement monthly group opportunities that support community integration, engagement and supports information dissemination regarding community supports and services
  • Cultivate and develop relationships with Syrian newcomer families
  • Foster a positive approach to integrating Syrian newcomers to Canada and London
  • Ensure safety of all individuals participating in events and activities
  • Ensure that sufficient human resources ( volunteers) are available at each event/activity
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide coordinated settlement supports

Administration

  • Participate in on-the-job training.
  • Actively participate in all staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Participate in the overall operation and activities of the organization.
  • Collect and maintain all relevant data required for reporting requirements for LUSO and the funder- Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration( MCI)
  • Prepare monthly reports and statistics as required in contracts
  • Maintain data base of participants for future activities
  • Maintain and submit accurate tracking forms and provide regular monthly updates to Executive Director
  • Maintain appropriate written records and files pertaining to services provided
  • Ensure appropriate and confidential handling of client information and files.
  • Operate in accordance with the policies, guidelines, and protocols of LUSO

 

Lines of Communication

  • Communicate regularly with LUSO’s Executive Director.
  • Collaborate with other LUSO staff members including Settlement workers to ensure integrated service delivery for clients.

Qualifications:

  • B.A. (Social Sciences) or equivalent international degreeMinimum of 2-3 years relevant experience (i.e. in community outreach, organizing events, activities, groups, workshop and delivery)
  • Proven ability to work with individuals and groups from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the newcomer settlement and integration process and a working knowledge of settlement needs and community supports
  • Project a positive, friendly and professional attitude
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Exceptional customer service skills, over the phone and in person
  • Self-motivated individual with ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate in Arabic ( focus of the role will be working with Syrian women)
  • Organizational, time management, and leadership skills
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office including PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Must obtain a Vulnerable Person’s Police Screening- at own cost
  • Possess First Aid and CPR or willing to obtain at own cost within 2 months of employment
  • This position requires a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
