Yurek Specialties Limited is a state-of-the-art processing facility in London, ON, which features the latest equipment to support the processing, production, and delivery of medical supplies and infusion equipment, along with related supplies, to the Elgin, Norfolk, Oxford, London-Middlesex, Huron, Perth, Grey, Bruce and Grand River counties.

We are currently looking for a full-time Registered Practical Nurse who has home care experience with IV therapies and related equipment, to join our Yurek Specialties team in London, Ontario.

Job Summary:
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for different technical tasks delegated by the Pharmacist, Compounding Supervisor, Pharmacy Supervisor, IV Home Coordinator, or Pharmacy Manager as per Yurek Delegation of Controlled Acts policy and Ontario College of Pharmacists Delegation of Controlled Acts policy.

The RPN aids in the processing of prescriptions by accurately entering all relevant patient, medication, and billing information using the Pharmacy software Kroll, as well as prioritizing the sequence with which they are completed. They are to process, prepare, and bill orders and participate in inventory management using Yurek’s internally developed software.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer and train on medication administration (IV, IM and SC) in the patient’s home or specialty clinics setting(s).
  • Monitor post-injection/infusion treatments as well as chart and report on all activities as directed by program protocols.
  • Coordinate daily with patients, case managers, physicians, scheduling and other departments to meet established timelines for scheduling appointments, treatments, and communication of information.
  • Support and assist with the transfer, coordination, and dispensing of prescriptions.
  • Participate regularly in telephone consultations and/or web-based meetings/training sessions to share information and uphold professional practice standards.
  • Consult with ordering providers, pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients regarding education and implementation of product specific programs.
  • Communicate appropriately with clients, their agents, Home and Community Care Support Services (HCCSS), Southwest staff, and other Health Care Professionals.
  • Manage complex client transitions from hospital to community, in collaboration with the IV Home Coordinator, our service providers, clients, and their families.
  • Enter and refill prescriptions through the prescription software (Kroll).
  • Prepare and label medications as required by law.
  • Order, receive, and store medications and supplies in the appropriate environment, as well as perform physical inventories according to policies and procedures.
  • Participate in performance improvement and quality assurance activities, education programs, and department/site meetings.

Education, Skills and Job Requirements:
  • Qualified Registered Practical Nurse (valid provincial license from the College of Nurses of Ontario).
  • Healthcare provider CPR certificate required.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Experience in a critical care, emergency, acute care inpatient/outpatient setting.
  • Experience in a homecare setting dealing with IV infusion patients highly preferred.
  • ACLS, CVAA, PALS Certification, and central venous lines/port experience are considered assets.
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Outlook (e-mail), and MS Word.
  • Excellent customer service skills in dealing with patients, ordering providers, and our clients.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in stressful situations, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure. Concentration is required to perform duties accurately and safely in a high activity environment.
