Job Description

Bonnie Brae is an 80 bed Long Term Care Home located in Tavistock, Ontario. MOHLTC has granted the current licensed beds be moved to a newly built 128 bed Facility in London, Ontario. Earls Court Village is currently being developed at 1390 Highbury Ave. N, London. The successful applicant will not only be accountable for the responsibilities listed below, but will also be responsible to assist in the development/opening process of the new facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures conformance with all legislative, regulatory and Bonnie Brae requirements pertaining to the Facility Services Department.
  • Participates in the development of the departmental annual operating budget and ensures operation within approved parameters and prepares budget lines and monthly invoices received.
  • Supports the policies and procedures of the organization
  • Recommend updates to policies and procedures for department manuals and records and submits reports as required.
  • Monitors inventories of departmental supplies and re-orders as required. (Housekeeping , Maintenance & Laundry)
  • Sets up and ensures the satisfactory operation of preventive maintenance programs including documentation.
  • Performs duties concerned with maintenance of grounds, parking lots, driveways, etc., including landscaping, clean up, snow removal, etc., except that performed under service contracts. (or maintenance support staff in larger homes)
  • Performs maintenance duties such as electrical and plumbing breakdowns; painting walls, ceilings; carpentry (including furniture refinishing or repair); mechanics (including equipment and mechanical systems); heating, cooling, and water systems; except those services performed under service contract (or maintenance support staff in larger homes).
  • Responsible for absenteeism and sick day management in the Facility Services department.
  • Responsible for recruiting, screening, orientation, development and supervision of Facility Services Department Staff.
  • Responsible for the scheduling and evaluation of Facility Services Department Staff
  • Is knowledgeable of the Resident Bill of Rights/Governing Principles and endeavours to promote it.
  • Ensures resident satisfaction and continuous quality improvement initiatives are promoted.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing freight; lifts and moves heavy furniture and equipment; and performs other miscellaneous duties as directed by the Administrator.
  • Assist the Administrator in the Infection Control Program by ensuring compliance with the established policies in relation to laundry and housekeeping issues.
  • Fulfils responsibilities as set out in fire safety program with the Fire Marshall.
  • Ensures maintenance/laundry/housekeeping staff complies with facility policies and procedures, including safety rules and safe working practices.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma is required;
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices and, if there are none, prevailing practices relating to housekeeping, laundry and maintenance, as applicable;
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity;
  • Must have a background which includes basic electrical, mechanical, carpentry and plumbing experience. Will possess good oral and written skills with the ability to effectively supervise the activities of hourly staff. Housekeeping and laundry experience is a definite asset.
  • Must be enrolled or willing to enroll in the Criteria for the O.H.H.A. Professional Healthcare Housekeepers’ Inc. Certificate Program (PHH)
  • Should have knowledge of building code and fire code as pertains to nursing homes. Should have knowledge of fire equipment, panel, sprinkler system, suppression system, and inspection/servicing and testing requirements as well as knowledge of generating systems and the testing of same. Should have knowledge of proper laundry procedures/chemicals/linen care. Should have working knowledge of HVAC systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, creativity and high motivation are musts.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and associated applications
  • Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/Sector Screening (VPS).
